A couple of times now, he’s thought he heard something else moving in the darkness, scraping against stone. It’s just his mind playing tricks on him, the echo of his own footsteps reflecting weirdly. It’s just him and Ember down here. Nothing else.
He holds on to that belief until the silence shatters. It’s not the dull scrape of gravel, but a low rumble and sharp huff of air.

He himself raises an eyebrow as he yanks his hand out of Momota’s grip, and smirks. He ignores the way he can’t see Momota’s face, and only a magenta blur greets him as he looks behind his shoulder. “Oh, do you, Momota-chan? I’ve already told all of you, I enjoy this game! If it comes down to me being the next blackened, I’ll do it. Or, a victim. I don’t mind.” He does mind, but no one has to know that.
