"It only took them a few moments to realize something was wrong after the last of the monsters fell to their blades, but there is no telling how long Hyrule had been missing before then. None of them know. Wild is likely the last one who saw him, as he mentioned that Hyrule was at his side when the second wave of monsters came in, but that still doesn’t give them anything definitive, as Wind admitted he didn’t even realize there had been a second wave. Even Time and Warriors are unsure, the latter suggesting the second wave could have occurred anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes previous. And that really influences how far the Hero of Hyrule could've gone.
Hyrule is missing."
(Or: Hyrule goes missing after getting separated from the Chain after an intense battle and Legend fails miserably at not blaming himself for the whole thing.)

“I don’t know about you guys,” Legend crossed his arms. “But the only girls that shadow guy would go after would be a princess.”
“They did say she was wearing pink,” Wind hummed and tapped his foot on the ground.
“But not all of our princesses wear pink,” Wild offered with a raised eyebrow.
“Well,” Time finally spoke, drawing all eyes to their leader. “That just narrows down who exactly we’re looking for.”
There was a moment of thoughtful silence before Hyrule spoke. “So…to the mountains, then?”
“Let’s save a princess!” Wind cheered.-

That's where it all began. 'We'.
The other men were a bit confused, asking him if he had someone with him. No, Wind realized, he didn't. He couldn't remember ever having traveled with anyone else before now. So why did he say 'we'?

I can handle myself.” wilds face didn't even bother looking at him, his tail strained against the weight of times body, they were slowly being lowered down due to wilds (minimal) control over wind, atleast of a sort.“Problem.” he muttered out, they were around twenty feet from the floor before wilds ability over the winds gave out, his body falling alongside times, who grabbed the small boy in his arms, aiming to protect him from the crash soon to befall them. The boy whimpered in his arms, exhaustion grasping at him, pain from the initial impact burning at him.
Hylia he hoped at least wild would survive this fall.

Heroes are very sacrificial creatures. They have to be, if they are to shoulder the burden of protecting an entire kingdom. Many of them have lost loved ones, endured torment, and surrendered personal comforts for the sake of strangers.
The Hero of Legend has accepted this reality more than most. He has always been willing to give everything he has for the people he loves, even if many of them leave in the end. He is content to continue traveling the world, giving every drop of blood in his body in service to the innocent.

The apple. It was in his hand, and the reflection, obedient, imitated its image in the puddle.
However much the fruit was moving, Wild could not find his own reflection in the water.A hylian silhouette, of the same size, observing silently meters away.
He moved slightly to the right, deciding to go an alternative way and that stranger imitated his movements as if it were a mirror, a dark reflection of himself.
Surprised, Wild moved to the left and the dark reflex, obedient, perfectly imitated his movements.Where were his teammates when he needed them?!
--Alt: Where Wild is possessed by Dark Link who wants to eliminate all the heroes through his body and the others suspect that something is not quite right.

Most of the citizens moved across the eastern ocean to New Hyrule, but a few communities still scrape a living on the old continent. The government of United Hyrule employs some of those who wouldn't or couldn't cross the sea to keep an eye on the Wasteland, which isn't quite as uninhabited as it seems.
