In the aftermath of a devastating explosion at FentonWorks, Tucker and Sam are left to pick up the pieces.
There's nothing that can be done for the skeletal remains of FentonWorks, nor for three elder Fenton's whose lives were taken in the explosion. But the pieces that Tucker has put together from what remains leaves one thing clear: Danny was shoved through the Portal an instant before the explosion.
Danny may not be dead. Or at least, not any deader than he already was.
Tucker won't stop until he rebuilds what was lost—and saves his friend from the world beyond.

He saw the ghost sitting on the bed, right in the place Danny had been. A choked scream issued from Sam, who had leapt back in the opposite direction from Tucker.
The ghost looked around, its eyes moving to Sam, and then Tucker. When its terrifying green gaze met Tucker’s, his mind screamed Danger, Danger, RUN. It was all Tucker could do to stay still. If he ran now, the monster might lash out.
“It’s me!”, the ghost cried, little green-glowing droplets beginning to well up in its wrong, oh so wrong glowing eyes.
(AU in which Danny's ghost form is incredibly creepy, off-putting, and fear-inducing to everyone despite the fact that it looks exactly the same as in the show, and it's literally impossible to recognize him in it.)

He only went to Vlad Masters to have his humanity removed, but he was denied. Instead, he was presented with a goal that might not be quite so unattainable. He'd fought ghosts for so long that he never really considered where they actually came from. His encounter with Poindexter should have clued him in to the concept that although his friends and family (and Mr Lancer) might not be alive anymore, that didn't necessarily mean that they were gone.
However, searching the Ghost Zone was no small task. Danny never really considered that he might not be the same as when he stepped inside.

You could consider this a sort of rewrite of Dark Danny(Dan Phantom?)'s backstory since I thought he turned evil way too fast and completely. I'm not sure how may times this has been done before since I only recently got here and I haven't read anything else, so, uh, be merciful.

Danny wakes up and finds himself restrained to a bed. With no memory as to how he got there, a few questions settle into his mind: "Who's doing this? Why are they doing this? When did I get here? How did I end up here? What's going to happen to me?" As he tries to escape, he struggles to piece together the events leading up to now, while holding himself together however he can.
I will reiterate, this is a horror fic. There are graphic depictions of physical injury and psychological torture throughout this fic. Strong language is frequently used. Medical torture is also present in later chapters. Warnings will be given at the beginning of each chapter.
