dream is a knight out of his depth. asked to act as a proxy for his king, he travels into the land of the king that his kingdom has been clashing with. it was supposed to be preliminary talks, a way for each country to see where concessions might be made. but it all goes terribly wrong. dragged from the dungeons, dream is left in the cursed forest surrounding the castle, an offering for the monster that stalks between the trees.
but against all odds, the monster spares him. and dream begins a relationship that will shape his future and show him what it is he truly wants from life.

The point is, Phil was busy. And Ranboo thought this to be his chance to prove himself to the two. Prove his worth. That he can be of use. Can defend them and himself if necessary. He totally wasn't worried that a rogue surviving bandit followed them home or anything! That's just stupid!
So, now here they are, Techno's axe resting against their thigh, staring at the front door with intense eyes. Lazor-focused, if you will.
Nothing's getting past that door.
Unless they want an axe in their throat.

Techno was starting to forget what the real world looked like. Here in the world that mattered there were many seasons at once, the person standing next to him had a hand that ended in living wood, and portals opened to let people step through them instead of doing anything as unseemly as walking down hallways. He did what it took to stay alive. He didn’t know how long it had been.
Techno tried to get his breath back, blood with that fae iridescence running down the blade of his silver sword.
The king smiled at him, a warm expression under eyes that never stopped calculating. He was wearing Techno’s father’s face again, which he seemed to like doing. “Well done,” the person who looked like Phil said, placing a hand on the side of Techno’s face. He tipped it upwards, forcing Techno to look at him. Techno could feel cold rings and the prick of claws against his skin, claws like it seemed most people had here. When Techno had woken up in the tithes’ bower this morning, his nails had come to a point. “You’re becoming a valued member of the court, like I knew you would,” the king told him. “You fit in so well.”
OR: Techno has been taken by the Forest King, and his dad comes for him.

Phil cannot even fathom how much strength it would take to endure the things Techno has. “You are, I promise.” Phil leans a little more heavily on his arm on the bed. “And when this is over, no one will touch you again unless you say it’s okay.”
Techno pulls his face away, eyes red-rimmed and snot smeared under his nose (and probably all over Phil’s shirt, but it’s washable). “You- you mean it?” he asks, tiny and hopeful.

Techno knows that when they near a town, he’s going to be put into the bigger cage and displayed for people to point and gawk at, expected to sit very still and be very quiet and not do anything, no matter what they do to him.
He knows that in the times between towns, when the cages fill with other hybrids, he has to keep still and quiet. He has to behave, because sometimes, they don’t hurt him as badly if he’s good.
Sometimes he wonders if they would sell him, if he was bad enough. But then they beat him, or whip him until blood runs down his back, and he remembers what he has to do.
He has to be silent. He has to sit still in his cage and never be hungry or thirsty, never make a sound.Series

Summary
Clicking on the link, he started to fill out the form. There were some normal questions, like age and occupation and some a bit weirder ones like blood type or how ok he would be with alternative methods of drawing blood. That one was weird.
At one place it even straight out said if he would be ok with being bit in the arm.
So, his future employer was a vampire, cool.
At the end he had to sign a declaration of confidentiality that said he would not disclose what happened at the job.
Well, that was weird.
Now he was actually starting to think the person was a vampire.

At the very bottom of the box is a single photograph.
Techno pulls it out, nausea curdling his stomach and grief making his eyes well with tears. It’s an old picture, carefully posed. Little five-year-old Techno is seated in his mother’s lap, his father’s hand resting on his shoulder. Big smiles on all three faces.
He’s used to the feeling of forcing words from a throat that doesn’t want to bring them into existence, but this- this feels far more impossible than speaking past his trach tube ever did. He sits there and stares and can’t say a word.

Techno feels really, really bad. He always feels bad, all floaty and weird, but he feels really especially bad now. He doesn’t know where he is and his head hurts and his tummy feels twisty and gross.

As blow after blow rains down upon Phil by his captor, he’s mocked with harsh words sneered at him, the condescending “Does this hurt? My apologies, Your Highness” and the smug "Oh how the mighty have fallen, Your Majesty."
And there's not even any denying it: King Phil has most definitely fallen.
But in the darkest of times, he finds a light to grasp onto, a friend in the form of the piglin hybrid locked in his cell.
Or a story of friendship between Phil and Techno, in which an ex-king who’s had all his freedom stripped away and a prisoner who’s always been treated like an animal both discover just how nice it is to finally have a friend.

Techno leads a pretty normal life. Boring, he might even say.
Which, in and of itself, is kind of a miracle. But he tries not to think about that part.
He still wears high-collared shirts all the time, hiding his throat. He keeps Phil on speed-dial, he’s always on guard for the first sign of something being wrong.
Which is why it’s such a shock when it does happen, and he doesn’t immediately notice.
In Techno’s defense, he hasn’t had a serious episode in four years. So he’s- well, he hasn’t forgotten, because there’s no forgetting it- but he maybe is out of practice noticing what it feels like.
He’s been lethargic for a day or so. Short of breath. There’s maybe a bit of an ache in his chest, but he’s had enough tubes and needles between his ribs that it always aches. It’s just a mild episode, he thinks. It’ll go away on its own.or, Techno has multiple medical emergencies, and his family takes care of him.

So. Wither skeletons. Technoblade knew his way around those pretty well by now, he would think, considering how many of their skulls he'd collected. Tall, deformed, bones blackened by fire and smoke and probably some kind of screwed up magic, carried stone swords around and couldn't fit through normal sized doorways.
There were one or two other little things that made them more dangerous, like the withering effect that empowered their attacks, not that Technoblade ever had trouble with something silly like that.
Technoblade never dies, after all. And Technoblade was not a loser, either, or a noob, or bald or cringe or any of the things the voices in his head were chanting at him when they all bore witness to him reaching for his healing potion only to find the bottle already empty.
This was fine, it would be fine.

His mother hissed and grabbed his arm. Hard. Technoblade bit his tongue to stifle the whine as his mother started to drag him down the hall. Technoblade could hardly keep up, stumbling and fumbling to keep from falling.
"Mother-! Mother I apologise! It won't happen again!"
