    Whenever the urge strikes him, he can dive off of the island and land onto his soulmate’s back, racing across the skies to wherever his heart desires. More often than not, that desire guides him to glide next to his serpentine companion. Its eyes are a striking purple and blue, glossing over him like he is not there as it surveys the vastness of blue in its path. He keeps a measured distance between himself and the creature – despite his fascination, he knows nothing about how it behaves – as he soars next to its head. It makes his flights less lonely.

    Every once in a while, Zelda will join him. She will fly on the other side of the dragon’s head, hidden from his view by the mane of golden strands. Hours are spent like this, together, with their friend, basking in the quiet comfort.

    When he is seventeen, that all changes. Zelda falls. Link is the goddess’ chosen agent. Fi leads him on a mission.

    "Hey," She says calmly, "Link, what's going on?"

    Link doesn't answer at first. He opens and closes his mouth a couple of times as if he's not sure what to say. The children are starting to look worried now, and Zelda realizes this is probably not the best place to unravel whatever new knowledge Link now possesses.

    Her confusion skyrockets, however. As Link finally seems to get his mouth right as he stares back at the page,

    "Aryll?" He whispers to himself, his frown deepening even more.

     

    Or:
    A year after The Upheaval and the defeat of Ganondorf; Zelda and Link now finds themselves living peacefully together once more. But Link is still dealing with a broken brain that can't seem to recall his past before he became a soldier. So what happens when new discoveries of that previous life are revealed? And exactly who is Aryll?

The soft and warm caress of the star upon his skin used to bring him comfort and the promise of a good day, of a good life. So when darkness was thrown upon Hyrule, he, without hesitation promised to himself, to his land and to every one he cherished, to bring back the sun. Oh, how could one blame him? It was his destiny, the reason why he existed. He was the Hero. The one whom the goddesses chose, the one with the never failing courage. No matter what, no matter when, no matter who. Saving Hyrule was his fate.  At first, Link simply accepted it without asking questions. Why would he? He was going to be a hero, to save everything he loves, and his life would feel complete. He was wrong. His life would never feel complete ever again.

    Link doesn't really know why he won't speak, but if he thinks too much about the reason, he'd be distracted from his one duty: protecting Princess Zelda at all costs
    Zelda also doesn't know why, and it angers her every time she thinks about it--why the perfect knight with a power he can use never even speaks to her.

    Legend bottled up too much of his feelings and now he can’t stop himself from breaking down.

    The days repeat themselves.
    Legend keeps finding himself doing the same thing and in the same headspace no matter where or what they're doing.
    All he does is fight, bicker, argue, be an asshole to those he cares about and pushes them away… He doesn’t want to risk them getting too close because he doesn’t want it to happen again. Unfortunately for him, no matter what he does, people slip through the cracks of the walls he put up to block himself away from them—getting close to him and becoming something he depends on only for them to disappear.
    Now, he found himself swiftly taking the key to his inn room from Time and making his way up the stairs, yelling at them not to bother him unless someone was dying; that he wasn’t going to waste his only opportunity to sleep a day away for the first time in forever.
