What he doesn't anticipate, however, is how shady Umbrella Corporation can be. Things do not go according to his plans, and he finds himself incredibly sick and mutating into something he never wanted to be or thought was possible.

“Would you quit it.” He stepped forwards but Dr. Jones shuffled backwards with the briefcase in hand, they started to ramble on and on about the virus being their life’s work and what not. A speech he’s heard hundreds if not thousands of times by now.
Chris now stood only a few feet in front of the frantic scientist, the same scientist that refused to give up on shooting him with an empty gun.
“Whether you like it or not, you’re coming with-” He never got to finish his sentence.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, Chris watched somebody drop down behind Dr. Jones. He aimed his weapon at the new person but it was already too late, he was helpless to watch as a knife slit the throat of the babbling scientist.
Just like that, red coated the floor and the shocked gurgling of a dying human filled the room.

He would very much like to point out that it’s his parents’ fault why and how he became a government agent in the first place, which, if Bruce finds out, he would undoubtedly have an aneurysm of epic proportions–cause of death: reckless child.
Granted, the Waynes and their friends and the honorary aunts and uncles are used to him coming and going for long periods of time because "he’s so busy running two companies, you understand," but if his family knows he’s shooting the undead in the face in his free time, well, they’ll lock him up in the manor and throw the key into the ocean.

Chris Redfield is doing his best to live up to the expectations his S.T.A.R.S. Captain has, but his own careless nature tends to get in the way. To the point where he is considering resignation, avoiding the man for reasons he´s unwilling to divulge and his work performance oscillates, driving the rest of team Alpha crazy. Until they have enough of both, Captain and Pointman. But problems in the team are not the only thing getting in the way. A crazy incident at an abandoned mansion forces S.T.A.R.S. to consider that there are greater things afoot than they might be prepared for, but with their reliable Captain leading them, things simply have to turn out fine in the end. They have to. Edit 2025: Aspotrophes have been fixed and I shall slowly work my way through each chapter to fix grammar and syntax mistakes to the best of my ability.

The rookie is determined to sit up, reaching out like he could drag Chris to Claire through sheer force of will now that they've met, and Chris has to place a firm hand on his chest to keep him from rising. "Tell me she made it."
They stare at each other. Chris feels his heart break and reform in his chest.
He's lying there, displaced in time, bleeding with an infected gunshot wound, and he's asking after Claire.
It's so Leon that it hurts.

Water welled in his eyes, stinging. No no no no. Pathetic grunts of pain escaped from his throat with every hit as feelings of frustration and defeat grew stronger within him. Fading out of consciousness, his vision escalating from just blurry to absolute darkness, bruised and battered against the ground, he lost any hope of winning this battle.

After sparing Albert Wesker's life, Chris is faced with the stark reality that there are long term consequences to his actions. In offering him mercy, Chris is forcing the broken remnants of the man he once loved to live in a world that wants nothing more than to destroy him.
Chris is willing to take responsibility for his former Captain, but is he truly prepared for all the trouble that would follow? Wesker is the least of his concerns when loyalties are tested and accusations of insubordination come to light.

In which Chris Redfield has always felt as if he were a failure when it came to saving those he cared about, and where Leon S. Kennedy has always felt as if he wasn't worth caring for anyway.
