Is he anything at all?—down below and in the farthest corner where he thinks he exists, he has the sense that he’s missing something. But he can’t hold onto the thought, the feeling always slipping through his fingers.

     

     

     

    He’s bobbing to-and-fro, swimming in the Nothing, but always going under with a crash of Something. The Something that tells him that something isn’t right. Try as he might, however, he can’t tell where the Nothing starts and ends. His mind—its melded itself to the walls of this lonesome state of nonbeing, making it difficult to think, to wake up. At least, he thinks—no, he’s pretty certain this isn’t how things used to be. It wouldn’t be nagging at him so badly if so, he thinks.

    Following the events of IDW 2005 canon: when Prowl tried to blackmail Chromedome, Chromedome wiped his memory of the relevant knowledge, leaving Prowl's mind with a vulnerability that Bombshell exploited. For months, Prowl was a Decepticon puppet. Under Bombshell's control, Prowl sabotaged his friendships and isolated himself, including breaking off a serious long-term relationship with Jazz. Prowl was reconfigured in spark and frame to become a part of Devastator, until Arcee killed Bombshell in battle.

    Before the Autobots and Decepticons are forced out of Iacon, Prowl tries to knit his life and his shattered mind back together, including trying to get back together with Jazz. The five Constructicons he's now bonded to don't make it easy for him, unfortunately. Not because they're not trying to help—in fact, they may be helping a little TOO much.

    Six against one isn't exactly fair odds.

    They moved like the twin stars that made up the gemini constellation—gravity damning them to never be apart, rules never sticking and authority never landing in their orbit.     Prime moves swiftly, with purpose—lifting, shifting, tossing debris aside as though it weighs nothing. His steps are careful but unrelenting, the ground shaking just slightly under each one. The tremor of the rubble vibrates through Starscream and it feels like knives being jabbed into his wires.

    Of course Optimus Prime would show up. Of course he'd come for one of his own.

    He can't even delegate this to someone else. Optimus Prime is too noble, too compassionate, too honorable to not put his own life on the line for his underlings.

    Megatron would laugh at the very notion.

    Starscream is left to rust after a failed decepticon mission. Optimus Prime does not let him die.

    Earth has been devastated by a war they, for once, didn’t start themselves. The sea is turning acidic, the sky is grey and thin, dirt crumbles into dust, and life is barely holding on to the memories of their once vibrant home—all because of the mechanical beasts that crashed into the pacific in 1984. They fought and killed and unleashed elements unknown to any science before they fled as quickly as they had come, leaving only devastation within their wake. Humanity had been unable to defend themselves at the time but now everything is different. Abandoned cybertronian technology has pushed humanities intelligence centuries further than they could’ve accomplished on their own and laid bare the technological faults of their once feared mechanical gods. Humanity created a means to fight back, and Pyra is the shining example of it all. But what happens when she is faced with both the annihilation of her species and the prospect of saving an entirely different one?

    Or, Optimus Prime struggles to come to terms with the violent ripples he has sent across the stars and seeks a purity in death, only to be forced to look into the eyes of something he unknowingly and unwillingly created.
