Ruby watched as her dad finally lulled himself to sleep. She had to lug him to the bed, the weight of him was almost too much for her. She knew her father meant nothing by it when he tries to shove her to the side, too stubborn and prideful to accept that he needed his little girl’s help to do something as simple as walking back to his own bed. But in the end, it just made the whole process all the more difficult, making her want to snap at him to just let her help.

This is a future AU/Next Gen fic set 16 years after the fall of Beacon. Note that most canon characters aside from the majority of the villains, Ilia, and Ruby are dead from chapter 4 on.

"No. Just a bit loud." Ruby says as her first words to Yang. She wishes she’d said something better immediately, because Yang flinches at the question. Ruby closes her mouth awkwardly before she just decides to explain why she’s even here. "Qrow is taking on a job. Like... the kind I can't go on."
"Oh." Yang puts the pieces together quickly enough, looking between her sister and the door behind her. "You want work.”

Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee had never intended to come in contact with alternate versions of themselves from some far-flung future, but it was clear that each had their own share of problems, even before arriving here.
Ruby's Alter smelled of blood, as if she lived in it, and summoned blades to her beck and call. A power that, by all routes of study, Ruby didn't have.
Weiss' Alter was more normal, but withdrawn and filled with a deep need to know "why?", living in an endless now that kept her mind trapped.
Neither was perfect, and neither was truly needed. But when it came to Ruby, who still lacked control of her Semblance after all these years... maybe this could be better than she thought.
Or perhaps, possibly, the weight of her empty dream would crush them both.

Ruby's eyes landed on her sister, Yang, who had always cared and looked after her even when the world and everyone in it seemed to hate her, as the blonde-haired huntress threw her body behind Ruby and took the hit come for her. Ruby's whole train of thought broke in two when Yang was thrown backwards over the golden platform that levitated in the void around them and over the ledge.
Screams rang all around Ruby but all she could do was stare at the ledge where her sister had fallen, Cresent Rose loosely hung for her hand in front of her.

I've always liked Ruby villain stories and even though she isn't necessarily a "villain" I wanted to write this
Ruby is Your average girl doing her best to get through life. But what if this lonely hitman in a very unfortunate scenario meets the girl of her dreams. Maybe the people she's working for aren't what they seem? Maybe it's time to get her life together...
Keep in mind im not a very good writer and made this in a spur-of-the-moment decision. Still, I hope you enjoy it.
