Growing up, Tommy had always felt cared for. In fact, he felt guilty daring to want. To imply to the universe what he had now wasn’t enough.Tommy had been to his friend’s houses. He’d seen his friends apologize for things Tommy took for granted on the daily. Apologies for empty fridges, screaming parents, messy houses, bruises.
Like Tommy’s inconvenience was more of a crime than the actual state of his friends' lives.
It wasn’t right.
He knew what he wanted to wish for now.
And so, he paused, right before the grassy shoulder of the road turned into warm pavement. Tommy squished his eyelids closed and concentrated. You had to get the wording right of a wish, his mum always said.
“I wish I could help people who need my help.” He whispered to the flower as he cradled the dandelion in his hands carefully.

Sometimes, prince Tommy wished he could disappear. He couldn’t stand the way people looked at him, like they could only see a political pawn to gain control over Flower Fall, a symbol of avian dominance in their mixed-origin country, a nubile prize to marry into nobility, a boy.
But once Techno gave him an invisibility potion, Tommy could vanish at any time! No one could look at him wrong if they couldn’t see him, right? Suddenly, Tommy didn’t have a care in the world…aside from the implication his brother wanted him to disappear.
For adopted crown prince Techno, all he wanted was to be seen. As a useful propaganda prop, sure, but the flashier a target he made, the safer Tommy would be. Nothing more than a decoy prince to draw the assassins away from the real royal family. For as much as they loved each other, Techno knew his family wanted him to disappear. And if the many assassins didn’t manage to take him out, his parents would ensure it themselves.
But that was fine. Techno would sacrifice his life for Tommy, the phantom of his protection to forever remain always at his side, never in his sight.

After being deemed unfit to serve in the war due to the glitch known as ‘divergence’ Techno is sent back to his primary, Phil. As the days turn into months, Phil and his family try to convince Techno to accept his glitch and accept that he has gained human emotions.
He refuses to be seen as broken and so fights against anything Phil tries to do to “help him”. This leads Phil to making him try group therapy with other divergent androids. As Techno joins the glitchy group of metal he starts to uncover memories unknown to him about his time on the battlefield, feel things he refuses to put a name to and slowly come to the realization that a hunk of metal like him can love.
All because Phil, Tommy and Kristin refuse to believe he’s unworthy of a family.
