Jason steps back. Jason flips the knife in his hand, bringing his arm up across his body and slashing it down towards him. Batman lets it bounce off his forearm and reaches before he can talk himself out of it, wrapping a hand around Jason's waist and tugging him close. His other hand comes up across his back, gripping the back of his neck and he just– holds him.
Jason freezes, knife still in the air. He knows where the gaps in the Batman armour are. He could kill him right now. The weight of fatherhood is held in Jason's knife and the firm knowledge that Bruce won't die tonight."
love this turn, which definitely looks at the relationships differently than a lot of other fics. gives equal weight to both jason and bruce's issues with one another and how it could start to be fixed.

'“Yeah,” Jason sets his jaw. “You can just say you don’t trust me.”
“I..” Bruce’s stony expression cracks. “You’re a ghost. You can’t expect—”
“Ghost? I’m right fucking here!” Jason surges forward, getting up in Bruce’s face before he can think better of it. It’s a horrible time for a fight; Jason is exhausted, Bruce is semi-feverish. At this point it’s anyone’s game, and they’re going to look really fucking stupid flopping over the furniture like beached fish.
When Jason’s hands slam into Bruce’s chest, it’s about as futile as trying to push Superman. Not that Jason would ever do that—Clark’s a nice enough guy, unlike Bruce. Bruce rocks backward, but it’s on a half-second delay, less like he’s reacting to being shoved and more like he’s trying to buffer Jason from the discomfort.
“Do you feel that?” Jason spits. He considers shoving Bruce again but decides against it. Instead, he just just balls up a fist and slams the side of it into Bruce’s sternum. “I’m. Right. Fucking. Here .'”
this is so, so perfect. would definitely read a follow up in the future. short, sweet, with just enough hurt/comfort/angst to hit right in the ribs, but vv satisfying. love this insight into jason's head and the complicated line between emotions/trauma/the pit.

"I kill so others don't have to," Bruce states firmly and clearly. This entire situation didn't seem like it could get any more bizarre, what with Bruce sitting in the dark and polishing guns, but somehow it just has, "While you are here you will not kill."
Jason's throat is scratchy and dry with terror, but the insatiable feeling of being talked over and disregarded is a fresh wound. He can't back down from this if he tried, "I've killed. I still kill. Who the fuck do you think you are to stop me?"
Bruce gently sets down his gun, and picks up the blade beside him with practised ease. Jason's blood runs cold when the man wearing his father's face says, "You will die by my hand if you try."
(Jason meets a version of Bruce who has manifested his fears very differently.)

A-Qing is pretty sure everyone here has lost their minds.

binge read the first three books in about three days (lie, it was more like a week). a collection of things i love about this includes, but is certainly not limited to: preteens acting like actual preteens instead of political scions, magically powerful harry who's actually 'cool' about it, ruthless preteens plotting murder (hermione, theo, etc), percy & oliver & tom, slytherin!ron, long suffering daphne & blaise, ~gender~, and a whole lot more! the author manages to keep a light hearted pace and tone even among brutal reveals, taking a beloved cast and tweaking them just a bit to the left, somehow making them even more lovable and interesting than canon.

The strawhats are on a treasure hunt, which would be fine if Sanji wasn't incredibly hungover. The only bright spot is that Zoro's hangover is even worse.

Now Black didn’t want his baby brother to be hurt, but he wanted him safe. And White went home, which was all Black ever wanted, so why did everything feel so fucking wrong?

i'm still not over toddblack, and this fic certainly didn't help. tackles the driving issues presented in canon, and the obstacles to a relationship, and then gets them through it (even though the road is rough). every update was enjoyable and meaningful.
