Izzy still doesn't precisely know how to feel about work this morning, but it's somewhere between scorn and dread.
He's already encountered the new General Manager's influence; Edward's unilateral decision last week to change his signature block to read co-General Manager, for fuck's sake, which Izzy had had to push back on. Izzy's also had actual contact with him; brief, over Teams. His impression of the man wasn't precisely flattering.
Day one of the High Income Tax Policy and Enforcement Branch, and Izzy doesn't really have any idea what to expect.

Israel Hands has been the Executive Officer to Edward Teach, General Manager of High Income Tax Enforcement, for a long time. He knows this job, he knows Edward, and he knows how to keep his life separate from work - for the most part.
And then the branch is restructured to include Stede Bonnet, General Manager of Tax Policy, and his team of fucking clowns. Suddenly Izzy has two bosses, irritating coworkers, and a rapidly disintegrating line between the personal and the professional.
Not to mention Edward's behaving more erratically than usual.
(It's a romcom).

Summary
What if Ed didn't go full 'Evil-Ed' post Stede? How would Izzy react to an Ed that still wasn't quite right even though Bonnet was gone?
What would it be like if they thought Stede Bonnet was fucking dead, but then he wasn't?
What if Izzy wasn't just a weird little guy?
This fic is the slowest of slow burns. It was intentionally written to build gradually as a cohesive narrative that expands over time because you can't get a good emotional release without FOREPLAY. All characters eventually come into play.
Ignore the scary chapter counts, they are less than 2k words each, and most are significantly shorter.
I'm not over tagging this jawn because I don't want to spoil it. Seriously, where's the fun if you know half of what you can expect from the tags alone. Don't you just want to let a story unfold, friend?
There will be no themes of sexual assault/violence in excess of the show.
Themes include: grief, loss, guilt, forgiveness, hurting people you love, healing, backsliding, childhood trauma, consent, power dynamics.

When Edward Teach, crew under the notorious Captain Hornigold, helps kidnap some rich fuck's wife, his life is changed by a silly little blonde guy with a penchant for fuckery.
When Israel Hands is left alone, there is very little left to keep him distracted from... well, from the fucking things he's fucking trying to stay fucking distracted from.

Ed teaches Drama at a private school for boys and does nothing else but smoke weed and rot with his best (and only) friend, Izzy. That is until a newly divorced English teacher with a passion for Shakespeare and fighting homophobia sweeps into his life.

He fled to the cabin door and burst out onto the deck, where most of his crew was now sleeping in the moonlight. "Roach!" he shouted. "He's worse, Ed's worse! Where are you, Roach, wake up!"

“You–” Ed was struggling to parse what Stede was saying. “You’re playing your version of this song for me, right now? Like, in real time?”“Yes, Edward, that’s correct,” said Stede softly.
Ed’s brain momentarily seized up. He supposed it made sense that Stede was capable of learning a set of rules to do something like arrange and play a piece of music. There was something unnerving about this song, though. It felt, well–it felt organic . Reactive. Almost collaborative in a way. Ed was lost in the push and pull of it, until the last notes softly petered out.
“So, what did you think?” asked Stede. It sounded nervous again. Why the hell would someone program an anxiety response into a bot?
