“You okay?” Zoey asks, her hand wrapped around Rumi’s. Mira’s hands are braced at her opposite shoulder, keeping her arm steady, and ow— that’s where the demon must have got her. She winces around a sharp inhale.
“You’re okay,” Mira says, firm. “Go slow. I think it dislocated your shoulder on top of scratching you up. Ripped your sweatshirt too, sorry. I know you liked this one.”
It takes Rumi a moment to register what she said. Then, in a move that makes her head spike with a pain that almost takes out her vision entirely, her focus snaps to her arm.
The sleeve of her hoodie is slashed open and gaping. Her patterns are out, shining in the morning sunlight, vivid even through the blood.
She’s up and away before either of them can stop her.

The first time Rumi gets hurt after the Idol Awards, a head wound and shock means she forgets that her team now knows about her patterns— and old habits die hard.

A chill swept through Rumi as, suddenly, Mira’s body tensed. The hotheaded woman was practically shooting lasers at her screen. For a second, Rumi worried she might actually crack the phone in her shaking hand.
Whatever Mira was looking at was bad.
Then, in what was undoubtedly an unconscious action, Mira’s eyes shot down to her own in a panicked flash.
'Oh,’ Rumi swallowed sharply, ‘so it’s about me.’

Calm washes over Mira. She finally finds her voice.
“Once again you are asking the wrong question.”
“Is that so?” Celine smirks. “Then what question should I be asking?” She sounds infuriatingly condescending but for the first time Mira can see through this mask that she is wearing like armor. Our faults and fears must never be seen, right? She wonders who told Celine that. Wonders when she started to believe it. When her sister died? When she held her niece for the first time and realized that her love wasn't strong enough to forget the hate?
“You should be asking yourself why she came to you to kill her and why even a small part of her thought you might actually do it.”

Celine wants to speak to her niece and doesn't really care whether Rumi is ready for that conversation. Mira does care about what Rumi wants.

Summary
Something nervous, terrified, settled into Rumi's features even as she gave a resolute nod. Shakily, she lifted her arms, having to lean against the edge of the tub heavily to keep from tumbling to the side. Pride flared in Mira again, though it was overshadowed by concern for what Rumi was trying to hide.
What had Celine forced her to keep silent? A million different horrible possibilities ran through her mind but all of them came to a screeching halt when she saw the purple on her skin.
The one thing she'd never considered.
Rumi had patterns.

What if Rumi got injured during the fight on the train? What if that injury led to the girls seeing her patterns?

Rumi is begging and Mira had wanted to be just that, be together, up until five minutes ago – her and Zoey had talked about it in detail, how both of their heart were beating for two people, how easy it had been to fall in love with their leader, how they wanted to try and be more, once they had restored the Golden Honmoon.
But Rumi lied to them.
And Mira finds she doesn’t want her anymore, not right now.
