The blood rose higher. The pain of his not existent arm was radiating through his entire body. The blood reached his ears. The metallic, cold taste filled his mouth. The suffocating liquid ran down his windpipe, flooding his lungs. He heard the female voice of the monster in his head. Mocking him. Celebrating his demise. Enjoying what it did. "You could have joined us, Simon. You could have seen your brothers again. But you saw the light."
___________Three years ago, Ryland Grace and Rock were on their way to one of Erids moons, when they somehow ended up in a universe without stars.
They got picked up by an organisation called the COI.
Working as a scientist and engineer for the COI, Rocky and Grace are now, three years later, tasked with finding out what happened to The convict who survived the Blood ocean.(Tags concerning triggers are mentioned at the beginning of each chapter containing said tags. He was certain he had died, but now he finds himself alive and not alone. In the time between his strange dreams, he can hear a man speaking with what he can only describe as a synthesizer outside the door of the med bay he finds himself in.

Even without Convict’s presence, at least Simon knew she wouldn’t be alone down there. She was never alone, what with four alters besides her occupying the brain at all times. She wouldn’t even be surprised if the headcount increased after all that strain.

Summary
Simon wakes up in what he assumes is a final attempt at breaking his mind. Yet it feels too real.
On the way to Earth for a little field trip (Rocky's human is a little homesick and needs to make sure his students survived)(Oh and the rest of earth too) they stop in a radio dead spot of the universe to find a hole in the stars the Astrophage has completely eaten through. Magnetic fields are entirely out of wack, but Rocky insists there's something alive in one of the stagnant moons.
There's a man. A man in a metal tube getting rattled around. So Grace saves him and imagines he'd probably rather be on Earth than in a deep space dead zone.
