"Challenge Accepted."
It's Easter of year six and Harry struggles with visions he's inherited from Voldemort. Dumbledore is reaching the end of his time and needs to ensure someone will take care of Harry after he's gone. An incident in the Forbidden Forest where Snape must care for an injured Harry without using magic sets in motion a chain of events that impacts how the prophecy plays out and brings former enemies to a place of mutual understanding.
Alternative Year Six story that extends into Harry's post-Hogwarts years. Canonical as possible through OotP. (Originally written and posted between November 2003 and June 2005, between books 5 and 6 around movie 3 under the username GreenGecko. This is the 5th edition.) This story can be read as a standalone. It comes to completion without a cliffhanger.

Summary
At the expense of Harry Potter's childhood, he is raised with strict discipline as heir to the Potter family legacy. Born with responsibility, his father doesn't hesitate to order him to mind his younger brother, Nathan, while they attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
A daunting task. His brother was no ordinary noble. To many, Nathan was the Boy-Who-Lived. A moniker the public foisted on him as a babe for ending a ten year war with his defeat of the powerful dark wizard, Voldemort.
Many of Voldemort's devotees have never been caught. Because of that, Harry's father instilled in him a level of paranoia to rival any seasoned veteran, promising him that they could attack them at any moment.
Braced for danger, Harry enters Hogwarts prepared to take a Killing Curse for his brother. However, when the semester begins, it's him who dark witches and wizards fixate on!
2026 "Update": I'm working on this. But I'm rewriting 120,000+. It takes time (keep in mind it took 2018-2021 for me to get to the original 22 chapters that I've deleted most of). Anyway, check ch. 1 and 2 for links to the updated (but only partially edited) versions of those chapters.

Snape's cover is blown. He is exposed as a spy. He knows he cannot stay at Hogwarts, not while he's being hunted by Death Eaters, but Harry is about to start school and he has a vow to fulfill.
Which leads him to agreeing to one of Dumbledore's harebrained schemes. Fake his death, de-age his body, and enter Hogwarts as a first year, all so he can protect Harry Potter.

Turning around Dumbledore smiled madly and raised Ethan to chest level.
“Ethan Sirius Potter, the boy who lived, slayer of Lord Voldemort. The Wizarding World owes him a great debt.” The Headmaster declared jubilantly.
Both Lily and James walked toward Ethan in awe.
Had any of the three adults checked on Harry they would have seen a white and black symbol on his chest slowly seep into his skin before disappearing altogether.

the writing is amazing. Harry is a little boy who likes violence and needs therapy, but there is still so much tension in the novel. Is Harry really good? Can we trust him? No matter how much you trust him there will be moments when you don’t, and that’s why this story is amazing.
Also love Snape’s character in this one. Perfect mix between bastard man and begrudging parent
