“I love you.” It was a beautiful reminder, and every time George said it, Dream always waited for him to take it back. He always waited for it to be some kind of sick joke. As the tension filled up in the air in the short seconds that Dream thinks to himself “How can this be true? How did I end up with the most special boy?” George reaches up, grabs the collar of his coat, and gives him a kiss.
“I love you too.”
The rest of their walk home was spent like this, both in the comfort of each other’s bodies during this rainy night.

George, who looks at him with millions of questions in his eyes Dream isn’t quite ready to answer. George looks at him with all the hope he has and Dream wants nothing more than to fulfill them. Who has his heart laid between them, ready for Dream to take.
Weak men have diversities, Dream knows he’s one of many. And he’s not ready to offer himself. Sometimes, weak men can’t afford to have their whole on the platter.
Dream, in the fragility of silence, wishes George will wait.
Started out as friends, and ended up being more than that.

Every part of Dream’s brain told him to stop, to step back, to not reach for George's curly hair or his waist, to back away while he still could.

Summary
Really, it shouldn't have been a surprise but Dream feels as if he knows George and George hardly ever cries. Even when he's homesick, when he's stressed and throws tantrums over spilled energy drinks and failed lines of code. George just doesn't cry. He balls it up and throws it back far into himself, deep in the back of his mind. So maybe Dream thinks it's okay he's a little surprised that during their movie, in the midst of a particularly sad romantic part, George buries his head into Dream's neck and gives a soft sob, grabbing onto Dream's hoodie and clenching his fingers around the fabric tightly with no intent on ever letting go. A little stunned, Dream tenses before adjusting his weight and pulling George impossibly closer, running a hand up his back and into his hair.
Maybe watching Five Feet Apart was a bad idea.
Or four times Dream tries to make George happy by setting him up on dates and the one time George takes matters into his own hands.

Even with his young heart filled with disdain, it still managed to jolt when Clay first saw the boy.
"I'm George," the dark-haired boy offered. He held out his hand with a small grin.
Clay looked down at George's hand and decided that it wasn't nearly as pretty now that it was attached to the being that had almost let him be killed.

Clay and George are separated soulmates and finally reunite when Clay has to visit the royal kingdom of Vdira so his cousin can get married to the crown prince. Little does he know; the crown prince is the beautiful boy from his past, and Clay is forced to watch them court each other while attempting to keep his eyes, and hands, off of George. Torn between his duty to his family and his strong feelings for the dark-haired prince, he is forced to make an impossible decision that could sever his already fractured heart.
*Similarities are due to inspiration from The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Anything else is coincidental. Remember, this is fan-fiction and Dream & George have said they're okay with it, but if that changes in the future, I will happily take this down.
