Light is five years old and the best, smartest kid in his whole class. Everyone says. And if Mom and Dad sometimes talk in hushed, worried tones then that's just how it is. He's going to draw the best dinosaur and beat out his rival, L.
L had gotten the cast after he’d climbed up on the monkey bars on the big kid’s side of the playground, where he wasn’t supposed to be, then slithered out onto the bars and hung upside-down from his knees, his arms dangling down below him. Then he’d fallen, all at once, dropping so fast Light couldn’t even see it happen then hitting the ground with a loud crack. When he came back to school two days later, he’d gotten a big applause and then everyone had huddled around him to sign the cast in silver sharpie, even though he was doing something wrong. It wasn’t fair. Light hadn’t signed L’s cast.

There are many words I have accumulated over the years of your life to describe you. Exceptional is not one of them. You are human and all humans are the same. That’s not something that has any exceptions. It’s your death. I will remember it.

Summary
After the confirmation of L's death, Roger Ruvie alongside everyone else had reasonably assumed that Quillsh Wammy had also been killed at the hands of Kira.
Mello ends up running away from the orphanage after being told the news, determined to become L's sole successor.
One cold winter night, he is found by the very person who brought him into the orphanage nearly a decade ago.
Quillsh Wammy has returned to England, alive and physically intact. Among all the children he has gathered, he finds that he ought to be happy, and do his best to guide the duo that is to succeed L. It would not do to show even an inkling of what the death of his most prized protege has done to him.
Even if it wounded him deeper than any physical blade could and brutally tore open decades old scars.
Even if he is slowly falling apart.
Even if the only thing that can silence the ghosts following him is a bullet straight through his head.
Roger Ruvie has loved Quillsh Wammy for nearly half a century. That is undeniable. Whether or not undying love can save a man too stubborn to admit he needs it is another question.
