Summary
Without a doubt, Donatello was a flawed, dysfunctional excuse of a creature. His existence served no real purpose and maybe the world would be better off without him.
But he was still Donatello Hamato. He would always be Donatello Hamato, as cursed and wretched as he was. That would not be taken from him, no matter how clinging to that identity physically burned.

At the damning click of handcuffs around his wrists, the last 24 hours of Donatello’s life overlayed atop each other as he searched for when it all went wrong.
Moments ago, he was fighting tooth and claw against squadrons of riot gear equipped opponents. There were no identifiable details Donnie could glean from the fighters. Intentionally so, considering the nondescript vests and fully visored helmets. For a turtle that subscribed to a qualitative lifestyle, not being able to collect any further data was more than anxiety-inducing.

Somehow more than the hell that was his plastron pressed flush with hot metal and glass, with his fingers curled tight between the gaps of a small metal grate and battle shell scalding his shoulders and back.

“Here!” The tanuki runs ahead of him, weaving through the rows of tables and chairs. It’s a lovely room, with rows of bookcases lining the walls, each of them rich with an abundance of knowledge, yet Donnie is yet to see the so-called victim anywhere.
The yokai stops short, looking perplexed as he glances hard at the ground as if he were simply awaiting something to somehow sprout from underneath it.
“Um. There was supposed to be a, uh, a body here…” the yokai explains sheepishly. He looks towards Donnie rather apologetically. “Hm. This… this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
Donnie frowns, making the tanuki cower just slightly. “And I suppose that whole knocking me on my ass earlier wasn’t exactly in the itinerary either?”
The tanuki purses his lips together, little button nose screwing up slightly. “No, mister Donatello. It, er, wasn’t.”
“Something feels weird,” Donnie says. “I don’t like it.”

Summary
Donnie collided with Leo in a tangle of limbs. There was an instinctive cling in return from his twin, before the realization sunk in.
"No." Leo breathed in his ear, immediately shattered. "No, no, no, no, no!”
Every muscle in Donnie's body was shaking like an earthquake from the amount of effort he'd just expended. The explosion caught up to them, sending the twins spiralling away into space and debris.
For one singular moment, Donnie allowed himself a burst of victory. His heart was still thudding a thousand miles an hour in his chest, having been absolutely terrified he wasn't going to make it in time. But he did. And he held onto Leo, his prize.
Then they hit the ground, the sudden tumble bursting them apart. Donnie felt the world spin, rapid and disorientating, before he slammed into something rock and cracking under his impact.

After the Krang’s attempted invasion, Donnie starts to experience some… adverse side effects from connecting to the Technodrome.
This is very loosely inspired by somerandomdudelmao’s apocalyptic series on tumblr.
Warnings for this fic!!! As mentioned in the tags, cancer is a big theme here. Also medical procedures, and needles. There will be lots of depressing moments, but I try to balance it out with some wholesome fluff... ya know, eventually.
