The voice was low, honeyed, warm in all the right places. It fell over Rumi in a way the man’s voice hadn’t, settling into her bones and gnawing faintly, already leaving impressions on her marrow.
And yet another touch, this one lighter, a palm splayed across the small of her back, a second body pressing into hers from behind.
“Yeah, we thought we lost you for a sec there.” This voice, a little higher, but no less deadly.
Not one, but two strangers.
“Can’t you see you’re interrupting something?” the guy snapped at them.
“Can’t you see,” the first voice mocked, “she’s not yours?”

Like how Alastor makes his hopeless heart flutter with the belief that maybe dreams are still possible; that Alastor makes him feel something, anything, everything all at once, and it is as heavenly as it is torturous.
But all he can manage, in a voice so small he can scarcely believe it’s his own, is, “He makes me laugh.”

Why the fuck had he even bothered to change? He loved Charlie (see constants no. 1-4), but even he had to admit his current discomfort was solely the result of the list of healthy bedtime rituals she’d organised for him when, allegedly, the bags under his eyes had started developing a gravitational pull.
In which Lucifer has insomnia, the hotel is moderately alive, and Alastor is in over his head.

Summary
Dream Endless was a celebrated concert pianist until Roderick Burgess brought a violent end to his career. After multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation, Dream has recovered 95% of his left hand's former abilities. Unfortunately for Dream, that 5% is crucial to being a concert pianist. Luckily, you do not need to be exceptional to play at an inn, you just need a good sister to give you a push and make the connections.
Hob Gadling is no stranger to trauma recovery. Not only has he made that painful journey himself, but he's also been supporting his seven-year-old son through his too. So of course he couldn't help but want to be a safe harbor for Dream who is embarking on his own trauma recovery journey. Hob just wishes he'd known how captivating Dream was before he'd said yes.
