Summary
War has ravaged Albion. The magical army led by Lady Morgana clashed with the cruel, anti-magic forces of Lord Agravaine. Both sides suffered horribly, with dragons decimating villages and villagers drowning Druid children. Only Camelot survived the battle intact, and it is said that the Golden Land with its Golden King Arthur is the last remaining place of solace and hope, where wounds can be healed and lives remade.
Among the refugees flocking to Camelot are the displaced Princess Gwen and her deathly ill brother Elyan, and a group of weary, hardened soldiers (Percival, Gwaine, and Leon) with their enslaved prisoner of war, the sorcerer Merlin.
The journey is long, but the call of the king is the only hope.

“Gaius,” Merlin started to ask, a bit hesitantly, when he finally reached the tower, late that evening. “What all do you know about faeries?”
Gaius dropped a half-finished potion, turned several fascinating shades of red and pink before moving on to near-purple, and yelled at Merlin for being irreparably foolish for quite a long while before Merlin was able to get a word in edgewise and was allowed to tell him anything more about the afternoon.

Summary
Once upon a time in the crystal cave, Merlin saw a vision of Arthur's future. He saw his best friend and King murdered by a man they once saved. He swore that he would do everything in his power to stop it from happening.
He figured it would be easy; Mordred had disappeared years ago after all.
But a chance encounter one night leads to the unexpected... Mordred being knighted for saving Arthur's life.
Desperate, Merlin tries to think of ways to get druid out of Camelot. But the distance he tried to create backfires, and others warn him about his blatant dislike of the newest knight. Lost, he doesn't know what to do.
How is he supposed to keep Mordred away from the King when it seems all the druid wants to do is protect him?
Not to mention Mordred's inability to leave Merlin alone. The druid seems hellbent and determined to befriend him, no matter how hard he pushes the other man away.
Slowly Merlin starts to wonder if things can be different. He failed to help Morgana, and she became an enemy. Maybe, if he does things differently, Mordred won't follow her path.

Merlin wakes up after a drunk night out with the knights in Sir Leon’s bed. They are both surprised by this outcome and pretend that it never happened in the first place—something that should be easy enough.
When they keep ending up in bed together after nights out drinking, it becomes harder to ignore. Merlin starts to see Leon in ways he never did before. He's reluctant to act on his new feelings since Leon is one of the king’s most loyal knights, and Merlin is a sorcerer in a kingdom where magic is still illegal. Besides, he's rather sure Leon will never return his feelings.

“Yes, an advisory position on my council,” Arthur says, he looks very proud of himself. “After all, when the Druids leave I’ll need someone to advise me on all things magic and I trust you.”
It’s a nice sentiment, it always makes Merlin feel warm when he brings up their bond and their trust. It just also seems a little silly.
“I can advise you without some silly title and council seat,” she goes back to cleaning a pair of his training trousers with the scrub brush in her hand. “I’ve been doing it this long.”
