Summary
Grian has always been incredible at disappearing and reappearing in people's lives. It wasn't like he tried to do it most of the time, it just happened. Before he'd even arrived on Hermitcraft season six he'd already met Mumbo and Scar on two separate and isolated occasions. Neither of them knew that they knew the same blond parrot hybrid with an affinity for building. And of course he'd known his siblings for a long time, disappearing at a young age from their lives and reappearing later on a shared server, only to be thrown into the deep end later.
There had always been a life he'd promised to never disappear from, and that was the life of his semi-adopted kid who he saw a bit too much of himself in. Only, he never had a good grip on his disappearing act.
Or: This is what happens when I find a bunch of random ideas that roam around in my head for to long in a tornado and create a fic without my permission. So here...

Scar didn’t bother with the food, he just stared Joel down, looking him dead in the eyes. “You need to lay off Jimmy with this toy bullshit.” Joel physically startled, both by the rare curse and the off the wall topic. Of all the things Scar could have been upset about this hadn’t even crossed his mind as a possibility.
“What? Come on Scar, are you serious? It’s not that big of a deal.” That was apparently the wrong thing to say because Scars face only darkened.
“Joel, I’m serious. It’s gone too far. You’ve had your fun, it's time to stop.”

“A little what?” Jon presses.
“Far– fetched,” the other man finishes, putting his hand behind his head.
“Yet– here you are. With supposed qualifications,” Jon retorts with a bitter tone. Martin nods.

Grian hadn't ever been expecting someone to follow through on courting ritual with him. He'd been crushing hard on his co-worker turned crime-fighting partner for years at this point, and Scar certainly had no idea that avians had that sort of thing. Specific little thoughtful gestures that would send a sign that whoever was doing the deed was interested. And as much as Grian would adore being spoiled by Scar performing all these little things that made his wings ruffle under his red sweater, pleased and basking in the attention, he knew it would never happen. Scar didn't know about avian courtship ritual.
He didn't.
Grian knew that he didn't know.
So if he didn't, why was he doing every ritual so perfectly?{In which Scar stumbles ass-backward into performing all 5 of the typical avian courtship gestures in his attempts at wooing Grian, Grian is desperately trying to convince himself he's still in the friend zone, Jimmy's busy having his own relationship crisis, and Pearl will meddle all she needs if it'll get these idiots together already.}

Grian and Scar work at the same cafe in Boattem. Grian always has dark eyebags and is constantly sleep-deprived; Scar is bright and cheery and full of life despite his chronic pains in his legs and the need for a cane. A regular customer, ‘Big B,’ asks Grain out on a date, and when his sister, the store owner, asks why he rejected someone so great, he couldn't just say his heart belonged to someone else. Scar notices the apparent distress at the question and tells Pearl that he and Grian are dating, when they are not. At least not in this world.
Or
Three times Grian woke up to nightmares of past ‘lives’, alone. One time he wakes up without a nightmare in the safety of Scar’s embrace but that’s just in one world. Unfortunately, they must worry about the other worlds
