“What the shit,” Tommy repeats for maybe the ninth time this morning, craning his neck to peer backwards over his shoulder.
He’s not hallucinating, unfortunately, as much as he’d tried to convince himself that hallucinations could probably convince you they hurt like a bitch if you banged them on your friend’s kitchen counter because you assumed they weren’t real. Which he thinks is a fairly logical assumption, because he’s pretty sure getting hit by a fucking car doesn’t give you bird wings, and don’t quote him on this one but he’s pretty sure blood transfusions don’t do that either!Listen, it wasn’t Tommy’s intention to get hit by a car! Luckily, the kind gentleman in the waiting room of the ER was a match for his blood type and offered a transfusion while the (mildly incompetent) hospital staff were panicking. But now Tommy’s sprouted wings. He didn’t think blood transfusions did that! Meanwhile, Philza, the city’s most beloved superhero, has a rather sudden realization that he can transfer his powers by transferring DNA.
