Ethan's mouth outran his brain when he replied, staring at the five monsters:

Summary
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

OR
The 100-year war is more of a 95-year war, end earlier for reasons that don't matter right now. After a few years of negotiations, Firelord Azulon wants a marriage alliance between the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe and a member of the Fire Nation royal family. No one really wants this, but after five years, Hakoda can tell his people are tired and want to move on, so he's willing to do what it takes to make peace happen. That is until the Fire Nation sends him a child to marry, and there is no way in hell that is happening.

Understandably, Karl Heisenberg is certain that whatever soulmate he may have had died horribly in 2017 after a span of 24 hours leaves his body covered in unexplainable scars. The gods were cruel enough to give him hope in the first place before stealing it away. Why is he surprised that with the small joy of realizing his soulmate may have survived comes also the horrific realization that this person is the man he just impaled in the chest.

Karl Heisenberg worked too damned hard to just die when Miranda had finally kicked the bucket.
Ethan had fought far too fucking hard to deserve the ending he got.
Also known as, I had a cry party with a bunch of friends watching the ending of RE8 and as the credits rolled cried about how I was going to make an AU where it's fine and everyone lives and everyone is a horrible antagonistic shitty ass family Without Miranda's bitch ass self: The AU.

"Let me get this straight", Heisenberg said with an incredulous look over his tinted glasses. "You douse yourself in some herbed booze and figure that's what's healing you?"
"It is", Ethan sneered. "Always has worked."

"What the fuck are you?"

Summary
When Ethan was fourteen, his world went up in flames. When he was fourteen, he took his mother's gun and escaped the city with a wagon of other survivors who knew better than to betray their names or faces to the smiling people in uniforms who claimed to be aid workers. He learned early that help is not always help, and that people are rarely who they claim to be, or even who they think they are.
He learned early not to let anyone else decide for him the difference between monsters willing and monsters made.
(Or, Ethan Winters, instinctive parent, Raccoon City survivor, and That Guy who the Gods just cannot seem to let die, does not kill the severely abused, mentally ill child bioweapon he finds in Louisiana. Instead, he takes her, and runs. To say this changes things is an understatement.)- Language:

The nightmare continues, the father's story has just begun.
