Summary
Kai's arms entangle her firmly and she holds onto their shirt as if she would fall if she doesn't. She hates that she's crying, breaking down in front of them. She feels weak, but she can't help it. Link's words hurt, too much, and Kai holds her so gently yet so firmly, they whisper "shh" and "let it out" into her ear and stroke her hair to try and soothe her, and even in her breakdown and need to push everyone away, Amelia finds comfort in Kai, so she stays.

The irony plagued them.
They had once boasted to Amelia that they needed very little sleep to function and look where that had landed them: impulse buying a plane ticket after another restless 24 hours, running through the airport to make it on time, all 6’ 1” of them jammed into a middle seat on a rickety Spirit Airlines flight, their hastily packed carry-on containing nothing but two shirts, underwear, and a toothbrush.
All without a shred of hope to cling to that she’d even want to see them, let alone take them back.
But she did… at least, tentatively.

background info: the bau, and the team, had always been understanding of your mental health, letting you take days or weeks off when you weren’t feeling too great. this time things got really bad and you tried to end your life. you had been off work for a month and hadn’t seen anyone since. the team come by to check if you’re ok and are satisfied with you telling them through the door. but that isn’t enough for emily anymore.
