Summary
Deadlock joined the Decepticons the first chance he got. They gave him a place, a purpose, a direction to channel his rage. While he would happily forget his entire miserable existence in the Dead End before the war, there was one bright memory that he cherished above all else. The shining red and white armor and gentle hands of a stubborn medic who saved his life when the world accounted him for nothing.
Their paths cross again when Ratchet is taken prisoner by the brutal commander Deadlock was sent to assist. Deadlock resolves to use every weapon at his disposal to save the one good thing left in the universe.

Summary
Ratchet is usually pretty good about not talking about feelings. He might be even better at deflecting and avoiding emotional conversations than Drift is, keeping his wounded spark hidden behind layers of acerbic wit. So it's odd that Ratchet is being open about his feelings now. Something had changed since Drift was exiled, and Ratchet is getting dangerously close to bulldozing his way right through all of Drift’s carefully constructed walls.

Their sights are set on an outpost where they can upgrade their battered armor, but arriving there in one piece may prove to be difficult.
Or, more accurately: Drift and Ratchet pass the time with banter, clanging, and unspoken feelings.

What reencountering your first love does to a mech.
After leaving at the end of the Great War, Drift—formerly Deadlock—returns to Cybertron one and a half million years later to a thriving utopia. The newfound peace caught him by surprise, but not as shocking as seeing Ratchet, the notoriously grumpy hardworking medic, finally enjoying a carefree life.
With no duties, or faction wariness between them, Drift hoped that maybe they could rekindle a lost friendship. This time, he wouldn’t ask for more than what Ratchet could give him.
Ratchet biggest regret was letting go of Drift once. Now that he’s returned, his spark (and also his best friend Wheeljack) kept screaming at him to shoot his shot. He was determined to do just that, but fear and cowardice struck him the moment they met again. Yes, he still loved Drift, but Ratchet had hurt him too. What rights does he have to take him back?

They were going to be fine. He had the antidote. They had help just a few floors down. The DJD were most likely not even on the planet. They would be up and out of there in no time and he would personally make sure they never touched down on this frozen slag-pit planet again.
But Drift’s mind was elsewhere. Somewhere terrifying it would seem. And no assurances Ratchet could offer would help him at this point. Except one.
One he had no intention of following through.
“...Okay.”
He accepted the sword and set it down beside him.
“I promise.”

As the Quintesson invasion loomed, Cybertron fought back with the Titans, their giant protectors who commune with multiple mecha to unlock their full potential. Ratchet and Omega Supreme have been going it alone, but without a third member on their team, they won't last long. Optimus Prime gives Ratchet an order – find a new partner, or be assigned one.
But Ratchet promised himself he'd never put another spark at risk. Not after what happened last time.
When only one mech volunteers, Ratchet feels he has very little choice.

From debasing himself for a hit on Cybertron, we follow him through an overdose, being the deadliest mech in megatron’s army, to learning how to be Drift through meditation but mostly consensual violence, to finding a place on the Lost Light. Along the way, he finds friendship, love, and maybe, the reason he survived this long.
