"D– Don't leave," Steve whispered, voice wavering like a falling leaf, eyes still stuck close, not wanting to see if the shadow was still a mass of black smoke or a gory monster with bloody razor teeth and sharp long nails.
It was wrong.
He knew it was wrong to beg for something so dangerous to stay. For all the kindness it showed him, it could've eaten him one day if he wasn't careful. But as much fear as Steve had for it, he also craved the tender touches and cold hugs it always gave him.
"Never gonna leave you, precious," the raspy voice sounded in his ears more clearly this time even if the pronunciation and accent still had a long way to go to be perfect.
And though it was a bad idea, Steve clung to those few words like a lifeline.

Screamed as his flesh was torn apart, heard Master of Puppets in the distance and held back tears. Felt Max’s cold, small hand in his as she laid in the hospital bed. There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.
Steve fails. They lose.
“Steve, how many loops have you been through?”
His head is nodding, and his eyes are watery, and Eddie has approached him like a spooked animal.
“I lost count.”

Summary
The scene that fades onto the screen next is a ceiling shot of the whole party, mirroring their exact positions in real time, everyone but Steve is frozen. Steven looks from right to left and back again, exhaling slowly. The ringing of a phone cuts through the air and his head snaps towards it. His face is unsure. He stands up and slowly makes his way over to the phone, makes several aborted movements to pick it up before taking it off the hook and hesitantly holding it to his ear, someone breathes on the other side and the line crackles with it, after a few seconds a harsh voice grates out of the phone,
[Grabber]: “When were you going to tell them, Finney?”
[Steve]: “I wasn’t.”
The person on the other line giggles which turns into a manic laugh, the laughter, the ringing, the static, they all get louder and louder until the room starts to shake violently and then all at once the line clicks dead and it’s silent. Steve stares hollowly at the phone before hanging it up. The screen goes black.

Summary
Overall, Stiles is very well-known in the supernatural community. It’d be hard not to be, not with how his reputation has grown like wildfire. He knows and is on good terms with nearly all the fae that reside in the preserve, the asrai that live deep in the lake, the Ito pack, the vampire couple that lives over in Beacon Valley (they buy an ethically-sourced food supply from Stiles), as well as almost every other supernatural entity in the area. But Talia Hale doesn’t like him, and a werewolf pack tends to do what their alpha tells them to.
So it’s a definite surprise when the wards at the edge of his property trip, the tingling down his spine telling him it’s a werewolf, the lack of burning sensation letting him know there’s no hostile intent. Stiles, in his office in the second floor turret, sets down the amulet he’s packing up for Marin and moves to the large window overlooking the front of his property. He’s expecting to see an Ito packmember, even though they nearly always call in advance, and is surprised to see a man that he recognizes as Talia’s brother, Peter.
