“You cannot!” Yusuf shouted, voice desperate and raw. They couldn’t leave Nicolò, the poor man would be lost in the ever changing landscape of the desert. He tugged against the rough hemp rope bound tightly around his wrists, ignoring how it sloughed his skin with every vicious jerk. He ignored the bite of the sword against his throat and pleaded, “Even as a deadman you can still garner a ransom for him!”

Nicky nodded but made no motion to stand up, to return to his husband’s arms. Instead he said, “I’m awake now. Do you want to go for a drive?”
“A drive?” She looked at her watch, it wasn’t anywhere close to morning. Although the idea of getting out of their windowless room is an attractive one, she can’t deny it, “Are you sure?”

At times, it seemed like all they did was no more than a single raindrop of hope in an ocean of despair and chaos, but together all those raindrops had evidently helped. Copley had captured it all, the last one hundred and fifty years of their lives condensed down into a few dozen photos and newspaper clippings. It seemed so small, and yet, all encompassing at the same time.
Kind of like how a declaration of love in a van during an abduction had condensed down all nine hundred and twenty years of an epic romance into a few hundred words. It seemed an impossible feat, but then, his Yusuf was just the kind of guy to pull it off.

“They’re a pair of men who have been perpetually 30-something for a thousand years,” Andy says reasonably. Sometime in the last two days she found where Nile hid the vodka and is now shamelessly drinking it straight from the bottle. “What do you think?”
Or: the Old Guard recovers from London and develops a spot of cabin fever, Andy is the worst patient in the world, Joe and Nicky are an old married couple, and Nile starts to figure out this immortality thing. Also there are pranks.
