At Sam’s insistence, Dean goes to the local hospital to get his COVID-19 vaccine. His nurse, Castiel, is new to town, and Dean enjoys chatting with him so much that he sort of…inadvertently asks him out during the 15-minute post-shot observation period.
Though he reminds Dean that the pandemic makes going out pretty difficult, Castiel is deeply flattered. Ever since moving to North Dakota five months ago so that his brother could shoot a documentary called Halcyon Days, Castiel’s been counting down the weeks until they could leave. Maybe Dean is a reason to stay—or at least a way for him to pass the time.

Summary

“Apparently, you told him you love him? The only reason I know is because he got drunk our first week back and let it slip.” Sam knotted his brows. “Do you like him?”
“If I love him, then it seems self-evident that I like him as well.” Castiel tilted his head. “What does this have to do with the vampire nest?”
“No, I’m asking if you, you know, like him. He thinks you love him in a ‘heavenly’ way. Not romantically.”

“I’m 16,” Dean says.
The guy’s left canine digs into his bottom lip, glinting underneath the club’s hot pink neon sign. They’re far enough away from the light, tucked into the mouth of the alley across the street, that it’s hard to see much of his face. Just his pointed tooth and the stretched five o’clock shadow where he’s grinning.
“16,” Dean repeats. “Okay?”
The age of consent in Indiana is 16. Dean looked it up at the public library four blocks from the motel. Not like it matters, since prostitution’s against the law no matter how old you are, but Dean figures it might make a psychological difference to some guys. Men—the ones around his dad, the ones on TV—talk about girls being legal like it’s some Holy Grail. He hasn’t heard too many men talking about boys, but he thinks it must be pretty much the same.
A 14-year-old Dean tries to sell himself so that he and Sam have money for Thanksgiving. Castiel travels back in time to stop him.

Summary
Dean and Sam are planning to spend Christmas alone this year, just like every other year since Dad died. They have their miniature fake tree with the few gifts underneath that the two of them can afford on Dean’s bartender wages and Sam’s campus job. They have a “plant-based roast” in the fridge for Christmas dinner because, to Dean’s chagrin, Sam went vegan over the summer. It’s a pretty uneventful end to 2015, all things considered.
Then, the morning of December 23rd, a pipe bursts in the apartment of one of Sam’s friends, and he comes over to stay until his landlord gives him the all-clear to return. Dean meets him at breakfast on Christmas Eve, and…crap. He’s buff. And hot. And flirty. And he speaks all sorts of languages in that deep, sexy voice of his.
But Dean is straight! There’s no way he’ll make a total fool of himself and embarrass his brother. He’s got this.

Castiel Shurley, pen name Castiel Novak, was once a confessional poetry wunderkind. Now, though, he’s 34 and hasn’t published a new collection in almost seven years. He can bemoan the vagaries of writer’s block and the challenges of parenting a teenage son while teaching full-time all he wants, but excuses aren’t going to impress his agent, his publisher, or his tenure committee. He’s in serious danger of becoming a washed-up literary fluke before even seeing middle age.
At the end of his rope, Castiel repairs to his sister Anna’s vacation home on Lake Pend Oreille, hoping a change of scenery will ungum his creative works. On one of their first trips into town, Jack strikes up a conversation in the parking lot of the local grocery store with the most beautiful man Castiel has ever seen, and that’s when Castiel feels it: his muse coming back after a half-decade of dormancy.

Summary
There’s nothing Dean enjoys more in bed than Castiel’s grace coming out to play. Lately, though, Castiel’s been holding back, lecturing Dean on the nature of his angelic grace instead of pleasuring him with it. It’s getting to the point where it’s affecting their sex life, and Dean finally bites the bullet and forces him to use his words. Tomorrow, Castiel says. They’ll talk about it tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the “semi-” in their semi-retirement rears its head the next day, and they end up on the road to Oklahoma, following the trail of a rogue angel. When they catch up to their quarry, he says something that gives Dean an inkling of what might be bothering Castiel. Now, he just has to find a way to talk to him about it, the motel room they’re sharing with Sam and Eileen be damned.

Before he was even born, Jack made Castiel a promise. When he doesn’t keep it after becoming God, Castiel knows something is wrong.
Together, father and son find a way to break free from Chuck’s final illusion and reset the timeline to just before Dean succumbs in the barn. An incensed Castiel heals Dean before flying the two of them back to the bunker, where he intends to lecture Dean on how easily he’d accepted his pointless death and parroted Chuck’s words.
For his part, Dean just wants to be sure his angel is really back. He wants to feel it.
In the end, spread out over the map table, both of them get what they want.

Summary
It’s a few months after Jack ascended and Castiel came back from the Empty. The time since has been a golden hour for the Winchesters and their found family: Sam and Eileen’s relationship is going from strength to strength; Jack’s plans to improve Heaven are proceeding apace; and Castiel is able to split his time evenly between the two most important people in his life, working in Heaven by day and returning to Dean for the night.
As for Dean, he’s trying civilian life on for size, and it’s going well so far—he’s the top student in both of his courses at the community college. His Spanish instructor is so impressed, in fact, that she wants to know if he has any study tips he could share with the class.
If only she knew.

Summary
Castiel, a newly minted anthropology PhD, moves to southeastern Massachusetts to accept a tenure-track position at Hockomock College. Not only does Hockomock’s location in the center of the Bridgewater Triangle seem like a perfect fit for his research on the cultural experience of paranormal phenomena, but he even found an amazing deal on a small house outside of town. It might be in the middle of a creepy swamp and right down the road from an old graveyard, but Castiel can handle that. If he were the kind of person who spooked easily, he wouldn’t do the research he does.
And then, a few days before Halloween, Castiel sees a frightening green creature standing in front of the graveyard, and he finds out just how easily he can spook.

It’s the fall of 2007, and Dean’s sophomore year at Edlund College is off to a rough start. Sure, it’s great to have a full ride to one of the country’s elite private schools, and it’s great to live in Vermont’s idyllic Champlain Valley, and it’s really great to have his own classic rock show on the campus radio station, but the thing Dean had been looking forward to the most was rooming with his best friend Castiel. And he hardly sees him these days.
The whole situation is Meg’s fault. Dean has no idea what Castiel sees in her or why they’re spending so much time together lately. As far as he can tell, they have nothing in common and Meg just wants to sleep with him. Which, fair. The dude’s pretty handsome. Even Dean can see that.
But Dean’s pretty sure that Castiel doesn’t want that, and he’s determined to prove it. He doesn’t care if he makes an ass of himself in the process. He just wants his roommate back.

On their way to a hunt on the Oregon Coast, Dean, Sam, and Castiel stop to bunk down for the night. A recommendation from their gas station attendant leads them to a bar called The Boys, where Castiel is nothing short of a sensation with the clientele.
Dean spends most of the night scaring off the sleazy guys who keep propositioning his best friend. Sam accuses him of being jealous, but it’s not that. It’s not that at all.
At the end of the night, a chance encounter with a kid who got in on a fake ID leads Castiel to say something that sticks in Dean’s head. He asks him about it the next morning…even though he’s pretty sure he’s not ready for the answer.
