Summary
Everyone keeps insisting that Keith is dead; no one but Shiro seems interested in keeping his memory alive. Keith is a dying flame, cradled in the cathedral between Shiro’s palms and Shiro is his sole shelter against the oncoming storm.
“I made a promise," Shiro says. "I told Keith I'd never give up on him—and I won’t.”
“What happens when one of our satellites finds the Persephone? How will you convince yourself he’s still out there?” Adam pauses, “How many times are you going to keep doing this to yourself?”
“As many times as it takes. Until I find him.”
Officer Keith Kogane pilots the Kerberos mission. Shiro loses his best friend to the vacuum of space.

Summary
Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!
(AU where Avians (winged folk), Galra, humans and merfolk cohabit earth. Shiro and Keith are avian soldiers, Lance is the youngest son of a Queen, Hunk is also a merman and Pidge is still looking for her family. They get caught up in a war.)

The Holt siblings think Shiro works too hard and under that very capable façade lies a soft heart that just needs a bit of love. They’re skeptical of the experiment’s professed success rate but they encourage Shiro to apply – it's all in the name of science after all.

“I came to issue a warning. You have to stop playing around, Keith. Breaking the seals isn’t something to be done out of spite. It needs to cease, immediately. Or else.”
“Or else? We both know being spiteful is exactly what Daddy would do. I thought you would like that. Didn’t you always want me in his image?”
Shiro’s eyes widen and he looks affronted before glancing off into the distance. “Not like this, Keith.” Shiro’s pale eyes glow with something almost like sadness. “You know what I want is for you to come back.”
“Come back?” Keith throws his head back and laughs bitterly. He looks back up at Shiro, red eyes narrowed. "You're joking, right?"
“Father misses you, we miss you. I… miss you.” Shiro says, looking like the words almost get caught in this throat.
“I don’t miss them.” Keith snaps, can’t bring himself to say he doesn’t miss Shiro, and isn't that just poetry?
