Summary
A year after Eddie Munson dies in the Upside Down, Steve Harrington finds him alive in front of the trailer he used to call home.

Steve doesn’t care. He doesn’t care about anything because Eddie is here. He’s alive. He’s different and bloodied but even as Robin approaches, even as she tells him this looks really bad, Steve, Steve breathes his first full breath since 1986.

As Steve watched them all get to their feet after climbing through the gate and he’d eyed the closing-searing crevice; as he’d made eye contact with Eddie while avoiding the same with Robin which was the best way to make sure they both knew what he was about to do; as Robin screamed and Nancy shouted and the kids started in at a pitch Eddie’d never heard before because no one could imagine a world without Steve Harrington—but in those moments:
There was never any question.
Eddie had read the truth of loss and apology, and then no-fucking-apology-at-all in that gaze because Steve Harrington was always going to give himself for the rest of them.
It’s who he is; who Eddie loves.
Even if it fucking kills him.
The moment the gate closed, though, and Steve was lost, and Robin wailed as much as she screeched over what could be done, something had to be able to be done—
The moment he couldn’t see Steve anymore, the moment his Stevie was gone: of course Eddie’s heart had fucking stopped.

Summary
Steve gets stuck in his head about it: the fucking gravestone they’re putting up. He hates the idea of it being installed over nothing, just plopped on grass and dirt and just, just…nothing.
Almost like they’re saying Eddie was somehow nothing, and when the overall notion hits on that thought specifically, Steve has the simultaneous urge to break a window and vomit, and it’s just, it’s not—
He needs to find a way to curb that feeling.
He hates it enough to mention it to the others, who don’t get it. At all. Maybe because it’s Steve, and they don’t think he knew Eddie enough to be this…this. If Steve was in a clearer frame of mind, maybe he’d be able to wonder, too.
But he’s not. In a clearer frame of mind. He can’t process all that much beyond the all-consuming need to not bury nothing under Eddie Munson’s name.
Which doesn't even touch yet on the way it also sticks in his head that, if they were going to name half of the Upside Down bullshit after the nerd game, if the parallels were gonna be just, accepted as a rule?
Then why shouldn't the existence of a spell in the nerd game called 'RAISE DEAD' be accepted, too?

Steve knows that’s partially bullshit. He’s good at sensing bullshit. But he plays along anyway, convinces the kids to just visit Max and they’ll plan a welcome home party for Eddie when he’s released. It gets harder by the day, especially when all the news they hear is that Eddie is healing well and should be good to go home even sooner than they thought.
No one tells them when he’s released.

The realisation makes him freeze for a moment, short enough that no one seems to notice. As terrified and angry Jamie would have been even three years ago to learn this about himself, Jamie today finds some peace in the thought. The past three years have been a time of change and growth for everyone at Richmond, and he’s sure they’ve changed for the better. He’s certainly changed for the better. What’s unnerving about it is that he can’t quite put his finger on when this happened, or how. Was it Ted’s influence, or the absence of his father’s? Was it the result of finally having a team behind him that he trusted implicitly, and who trusted him in turn? Was it because of Roy?
