Summary
Spike never has behaved the way Buffy expected... not even when he's a feral demon.
At the end of 'Lover's Walk,' instead of sending his goons to fight Spike, Mayor Wilkins sends them to capture him. When they return with the vampire and a bonus Slayer, Wilkins injects them with some new drugs he got from Professor Walsh over at the university. With Buffy stripped of her strength and Spike stripped of his human traits, all the Mayor has to do is lock them in a room and let the Slayer of Slayers do what he does best.
Buffy wakes up weak, injured, in chains, and at the complete mercy of her mortal enemy. Yet instead of torturing and killing her, Spike frees her and tends her wounds. She can't ask him why, because he's nonverbal. The two of them form a bond, depending on each other to escape. By the time Buffy and Spike get free of the Mayor's clutches, everything between them has changed... as has everything Buffy thought she knew about demons.- Language:

Like, if she found out before her landlord changed the locks on her apartment, or before the bank sent her all those red letters, or before the pasta dried up, she’d probably have just taken herself to Planned Parenthood, popped the pills and charged it to the game. But as it is, the two blue lines appear on the stick during the worst months of her life, the first months of the pandemic when she’s unemployed and shit scared that her dad is going to get coronavirus and die. And when she sees them, she just thinks: well, this might as well happen. She was a disappointment before. What’s one more thing?
Before she meets Carmy, Sydney has a baby.

When Riley’s in town with his wife, Buffy starts to want what they have - a “normal” relationship. Or at least one where it isn’t just meaningless sex. So when she goes to Spike’s crypt that night, she gives him an ultimatum: if he wants her, he has to court her or get nothing at all. Spike, who is a century of courting out of practice, has a lot of work ahead of him. Work he'd happily do any damned day of the week.
