Summary
After vanquishing the gnolls, the group gets most of the way to the Tollhouse before someone lets off a signal firework behind them. Tav, of course, insists they backtrack, finding a tunnel that smells as though humans had recently passed through. Why though, Astarion thinks, would the men have not used the tunnel to escape?
***
“Whats wrong?” Tav asked, her voice distant.Gale stepped forward, his well tailored boots kicking up dust - his robe almost trailed in the dirt, such was its length, and Astarion couldn’t help but think it would be better off being a few inches shorter.
And then the robe moved, in an unnatural way, the end flicking horizontal and dragging, as if Gale had moved off an invisible step and left it raised behind him. Or, Astarion realized with horror, as if it had gotten caught on something strung low across the pathway, that the first three had miraculously stepped over.
His head snapped up, finally understanding - the boulder wasn’t part of the rock wall. It was placed on top of the platform, poised to crush anyone who triggered the trap that they had only missed through sheer dumb luck.
“Stop!” he hissed, his feet rooted to the ground. “It’s a trap!”

Summary
Traveling east on the Risen Road, they find a strange creature - a hyena, foreign to these parts... and she's pregnant. Tav, as always, is determined to save the laboring beast, and deliver its puppies safely.
***
Everything seeming to move in slow motion. Wyll, bellowing his challenge as Shadowheart leapt forward to face the attacking monstrosity at his side. Lae’zel pivoting, her attention drawn to another gnoll emerging from the woods. And Tav, being hauled backwards by Gale as the hyena's stomach bulged, and finally tore, spraying her with blood as the beast let out one last scream. But it wasn't a baby hyena that burst forth, and he realized with horror there had never been pups at all. Instead, a long clawed hand snatched out of the hyena's belly, grasping Tav around the elbow and digging in as Gale pulled her away, opening deep cuts in her arm. Her scream joined the hyena's, mingling with the mocking, cackling laughter of the gnolls, before the thing's monstrous head emerged from its dying mother's body. Already leaping forward, jaws wide enough to reveal rows of jagged teeth, to tear out Tav's throat.

Summary
After weeks in the wilderness, the group has finally reached an inn, with a fireplace, a bed, and solid walls - things that Astarion is determined to take full advantage of, now that he and Tav are more comfortable together. Astarion is thrilled that his plan is coming along so nicely - it means they can enjoy each others company, indulge in a footrub while they build up to the main event, maybe even find a way to make Tav more vocal in what she wants.
But their increased bond also means that Tav is getting braver.... and she's starting to ask questions he has no answer to.
***
“Here,” she breathed, lifting her chin to expose her throat. “I want.... want your fangs inside me.”It was a ridiculous thing to say. He could tell from her face that she knew it as soon as the quiet words left her hesitant lips, and regretted it. If it was someone else, he'd have mocked them for it, raised his eyebrow and let a smug smile wash over his face. But she was trying, he thought fondly, and he knew it wasn't easy for her. So he pressed his lips against her neck, kissing as he worked his way to her ear.
“That's good,” he crooned, feeling her relax, ankles interlocking around his waist. “That's perfect, darling.”

Summary
The problem with traveling alongside a monster hunter like Wyll, Astarion often thinks, is that the young man has a terrible habit of getting himself and Astarion into trouble. First, his insistence on bouncing around on webbing that landed them both in the blacksmith's cellar while Tav and the others are left topside. Then, his idea of blowing a hole through the cellar wall to escape through the caves. Now at least, they've found the Arachnomancer's Chamber, journals filled with ramblings about 'transcendence' ... and a lot of very, very large webs.
***
“Wyll,” Astarion hissed, finally getting his attention. “I think I found our escape. And Eliette.”“What?” Wyll replied, tossing the journal onto the bed and hurrying over. “Alive?”
“In a manner of speaking,” Astarion said, slowly raising his hand to point.
Wyll’s human eye squinted into the darkness, scanning the chasm, peering through the dim light for an insane high-elf wandering through the cave, probably determined to rescue her. But then it moved from behind a rock, the bright blue easily seen even through the gloom, and Wyll’s eyes suddenly opened very wide.
“Oh, hells, ” he breathed. “Oh, fuck me.”

Summary
Still stuck in half-orc form to facilitate their sneaky journey through Moonrise, Astarion is injured in the fight with some defensive skeletons in the Apothecary's Cellar. While he and Tav sit together to recover in the cave, the others go ahead to search the study for anything that can be used to open Astarion's screaming book. But there is one more coffin, unopened, so Tav and Astarion decide to deal with whatever is inside themselves, just to prove that they can. But while they suspect its another skeleton, it turns out to be something far different.
***
Tav rolled her eyes, suddenly noticing something behind him.“Don’t leave that behind,” she said, pointing towards it so he turned to look at Wyll’s shovel. “He must have forgot it in the excitement.”
“Oh darling, let’s leave it,” he protested, walking mournfully towards it to pick it up. “Look darling, it’s dirty.”
“It’s a shovel, Astarion, what do you expect,” she said dryly. “Here, I’ll carry it.”
“Shovel?” said a third voice suddenly, making them both freeze. “Me Shovel?”

Summary
Temporarily trapped in a new form to avoid detection, Astarion and his companions have attempted to cut back through Moonhaven to reach the Risen Road. But when they're confronted by ogres, and Astarion intervenes to stop Tav saving their friends, unresolved tensions bubble to the surface.
***
“Darling,” he began, not sure where he was going but knowing he had to say something.“Don't ‘darling’ me,” she warned. “You can't just ‘darling’ your way out of everything.”
“But darling,” he protested, reaching out to take her hands in his to test her theory - but Tav yanked away from him, glaring with furious eyes.
“That works much better when you're beautiful, Astarion,” she snapped. “Trust me, when all that's gone, you're not nearly as tolerable.”
Astarion blinked, caught off guard as Tav froze, clearly realizing as the words left her mouth that she had gone too far.
“I - I -” she stammered, her face going pale beneath her freckles. “I didn't mean - that came out wrong.”

Summary
Heading up to the inn at Waukeen's Rest, Tav, Astarion and the gang decide to investigate the cave of the dead Owlbear. Although the goblins have slaughtered the beast, they decide there may be treasure inside - there isn't, but there is something else unexpected.
***
“This looks interesting,” Wyll called out, holding something aloft as he hurried back over. “Part of a spear.”“Why do we care about part of a spear?” Astarion asked in exasperation.
In reply, Wyll gave him a cheeky wink and waved the top half of a snapped spear towards his face. To Astarion's disgust, a gawking yellow eye was pierced on the broken spear head. He quickly sidestepped behind Tav as Wyll teasingly chased him with it, making what he probably thought was a scary noise.
“Don't touch me,” Astarion muttered, trying not to let the awful looking thing get anywhere near him.

Summary
Having gained access to the blighted village of Moonhaven, Tav and Astarion head down to the apothecary's cellar for him to feed on her. Finally alone, high on her blood, Astarion thinks its the perfect time to move their relationship forward. But Tav isn't so sure, and Astarion reacts in his usual petty manner about her rejection - but is distracted when he notices something very odd about a nearby bookcase.
***
He withdrew his fangs, feeling his lips on her skin, feeling the blood flow into his mouth, feeling the surge of pleasure and power that it contained. It was like a long drawn out lovemaking session, making sure to hit just the right spots, as opposed to a quick hard fuck. Both pleasurable, but different.Astarion felt himself growing rigid within his small-clothes. He was already pressed up against her, she’d notice this time even if she hadn’t before. Just in case, he ground against her to make sure she knew, and there was a higher pitched gasp as her hands moved slightly, but stayed on the books. The blood crept out onto his tongue as he lapped at her, to heal her and clean her, before his mouth left her skin.
“Take off your pants, darling,” he whispered, unbuttoning his own.

Summary
Settling down for the night in the Blighted Village of Moonhaven, Astarion sets off to go hunting - finding, to his annoyance, that Gale's invention has caught a rabbit, which is sure to make him look good in Tav's eyes. Astarion decides that's unacceptable. But while heading to the river to dispose of the evidence of his crime, he accidently stumbles upon where Tav is bathing.
***
Feeling very satisfied from the rabbit blood and the sabotage of Gale’s trap, Astarion began to walk towards the river. It wasn’t far, and he could hear the sound of the stream rushing merrily by. He sniffed, as he tended to do, and detected a whiff of something that made him stop completely still.“Gods it's getting cold fast,” a voice said. “Summer will be over soon.”
It was Shadowheart - he’d accidentally stumbled across where the others were bathing. He crept a little closer, peering around Shadowheart until he could see Tav, sitting down in the water, her hair loose, infuriatingly covered up to her chest by the rushing stream.
“You go, I’ll catch up,” Tav replied, scrubbing at her hair.
“What if some nasty little beast decides to spy on you?” Shadowheart said, and Astarion tried very hard not to be offended.

Summary
After a strange encounter with the wizard author Volo, the group continue towards the village they spotted in the distance. Gale, chatty as ever, regales the others with the tale of Mystra, the Mother of Magic. For once, Astarion is interested in Gale's ramblings, and finds himself wondering if perhaps he should enlist two protectors, rather than just one.
It's time, he decides, to indulge in another one of his little fantasies... but it doesn't quite go the way he expects.
***
“Volo is …” Gale said, a pained look on his face. “Important, to Mystra.”He was jealous, Astarion realized after a moment, finding himself gleeful at Gale’s pettiness. Perhaps Gale had delusions of grandeur, dreams of being a famous author himself, and was sick of being overshadowed by the bombastic Volo.
“I take it you don’t like Volo’s books then?” Tav asked.
“As works of fiction, they are exemplary narratives,” Gale muttered. “As guides to the real world, they are somewhat lacking in substance.”
“Not in dragons though,” Astarion commented drily, which earned him another of Gale’s chuckles and one of Tav’s warm smiles, obviously assuming he was joking.

Summary
Nearly a decade before meeting Astarion, Tav is on the run from her old life. Desperate to escape her past, and put enough distance between Durge and herself as possible, she finds employment working for a Gur as part of their convoy. While Gur have bad reputations, Tav finds them to be kind, and friendly - especially the young son of her employer, a Gur named Pumler. Even if he is awkward, shy and clumsy. But tonight, it's his twentieth morn day - and he's finally old enough to be considered a man.
***
Tav sat up again, and looked outside the caravan window, giving herself an ultimatum. The candle was still burning. This was, she knew, as she slipped out of bed and crossed the clearing, a terrible idea. But she knocked quietly on the green and yellow door, half hoping he’d just fallen asleep with the candle not blown out. There was a flurry of activity from inside, before the door was flung open, and Pumler looked down at her with a beaming smile.“Hey Tav,” he said eagerly. “Hello. Hi. Um.”
“Hello,” she repeated, not sure what else to say.
“Come in,” he offered, stepping aside. “I’ll give you the tour."

Summary
The group have made it to the goblin camp, and just have to try and find their way in. Unfortunately, distracted for a moment, Tav bumps into the goblin Crusher, who demands she kiss his foot to make up for her disrespect. And Astarion, who knows all about being degraded, is determined to protect her - or at least, seek revenge.
***
What had Tav called him? Ah yes, he was her bodyguard. Meant to protect her, just like she was protecting him. And she’d been doing an excellent job, really, even if she wasn’t ready to fuck him just yet. Yet now she was shaking, because he hadn’t defended her in turn.“Astarion?” Tav asked, and he heard the little quaver in her voice that meant she was still trying to throw off the horrible feeling of degradation, determined to show she wasn’t bothered.
“Darling?” he said automatically, looking at her cheerfully.
“Did you hear what I said?”
“Not one word, darling,” he responded without shame. Everyone sighed.
“I said –“
“Excuse me for a minute darling,” he said, stepping backwards.
“Where are you going?” she asked, confused, and they all stared as he took another step towards the outer entrance.
“To relieve myself,” he said pointedly.

Summary
Safe at last at the Last Night Inn, Astarion finds Tav in the bath. But he can't help but spoil the moment with another demand - when is she going to tell people about them. Why keep their relationship a secret? Why not acknowledge they care for each other? Why, after everything, doesn't she trust him? And Tav, usually so quiet, is sick of it, and finally tells him why she's so determined to not let anyone know.
***
He leaned his head back against the tub, feeling like he’d been drained. Tav sounded like she was finished now, and he wondered if that meant they were finished too.Was she wrong, really, about any of it?
Still not sure what to say, he just listened to the sound of scrubbing fingers, splashing water, hair being wrung out, the occasional sobbing breath that she choked down. Until she was done taking her anger out on her beautiful hair and she sat quietly, probably hoping he’d just leave and get it over with, before anyone found out about them and she had to explain it.
She was wrong about a lot of it, he thought.
“Little Star,” he said abruptly.
“What?” she replied, distracted momentarily by confusion.
“My name,” he continued. “'Astarion’. It means ‘Little Star’."

Summary
For the first time in weeks, Tav has declined Astarion's offer of an evening of pleasure. Alone in his tent, his mind starts to wander, and he begins to think about the handsome warlock Wyll Ravengard. But while the real Wyll is celibate, Astarion's fantasy is a lot more eager to take Tav's place in Astarion's bed.
***
“I’ve dreamed about this for so long,” Wyll breathed, as Astarion took his hand. “Dreamed about you.”Astarion didn’t reply, just let his eyes darken and his lip curve, running his fingers along the scars on Wyll’s cheek. The raised, ropey marks gave way to shallow channels, curving their way through the dark skin. His stubble, so unlike Tav’s softness, scratched Astarion’s fingers as he stroked his way along Wyll’s cheek, placing his thumb on the man’s wide, thick lip, dragging it gently down to open his mouth and see his perfect white teeth.
Wyll unexpectedly leant forward and took Astarion’s thumb in his mouth, sucking eagerly, looking up at him, a silent promise of what was to come. For a moment Astarion just let him suck, revelling in the way Wyll’s tongue traced around his nail, before he withdrew it, and slowly placed his hands on his belt.

Summary
The night before infiltrating the Goblin Camp, Tav invites Astarion into her tent. While she claims to just want to discuss Kagha's book, and give him enough blood to ensure he's ready to fight, he hopes that tonight, finally, they might do more.
***
Tav, he knew, wanted desperately for him to push her down onto the bedroll and roll in between her legs. But Gale and Wyll were still awake, probably listening after she’d practically announced he was coming to feed on her, making sure Astarion didn’t lose control. She had intentionally enlisted witnesses to act as distant chaperones, to keep things from getting too hot and heavy.A glutton for punishment, was Tav. She’d made it as easy as possible for him to try and seduce her, and then given herself a variety of excuses to get out of it if he did – or, to keep her from making the first move. It was so … immature. Astarion had to admit he found it frustrating, but somehow delightfully droll. He really needed to stop being amused by things he found annoying, it led to a lot of complicated feelings he’d rather not experience. Why couldn’t they just sneak off into the woods and fuck? She’d enjoy it, he was good at it, why all the games?
Maddening.

Summary
Astarion's latest hunt didn't go so well, but he's full of plans on how to spend the remainder of the night - mostly involving Tav on all fours - so he sneaks into her room to find her peacefully asleep. He will wake her up, he decides - but for a minute, maybe he'll just sit, and watch over her.
***
“You’re cold now,” Tav said. “Are you thirsty?”“Are you offering?” he purred.
As he spoke, he caught her hand in his and kissed her palm, watching her as he did. She was properly awake now, gazing at him with nervous fascination as he nuzzled again at her wrist, running the tip of his fangs along the blue veins that lay just under the skin. If he bit her, his heartbeat would rise to match hers, and he would warm up. It would relax soon afterwards and eventually slow down to almost nothing within a day, and then he would be cold again. But it was exceedingly pleasant while it lasted.
Especially when it was Tav’s blood, which sharpened his senses and made him hard. One day soon, he’d ask her to let him drink from her while he came inside her, which seemed a delightfully poetic circle of giving that he was sure he could string into a suitably romantic proposition, with enough planning.

Summary
Astarion, Tav and the others are spending the evening at an inn called Waukeen's Rest, which seems a very pleasant place (even if the staff are occupied preparing for the arrival of some VIPs who have been held up on the road). With the others asleep, Astarion sits in his room, waiting for Tav to emerge from the bathhouse.
***
He was distracted by the room she’d picked for herself. He’d paid good money for his large room with the big feather bed, and a view, and the fireplace, were they really going to fuck in this small little closet? This, he reminded himself sternly, is why he needed to make better plans. He should have lured her back to his room with him, fucked in front of a roaring fireplace on the bearskin rug. Although he hadn't lit a fire. He didn't even know how. She would know though - the best plan would be to fuck once in his bed, then have her stoak the fire, preferably while still naked, and only once it was lit - have her again on the rug so they were both warm and abundently satisfied.
“My room is much nicer, dar-“ he started, but she snatched for his face and pulled him down to taste her.
To the hells with the fireplace and the bearskin rug then, this room was fine.

Summary
For weeks, Astarion has been reveling in his newfound freedom - the sun is bright, ceremorphosis has been delayed, and Tav is still enthusiastically slipping into his tent at night. But then, while Tav was suffering her moon-blood cycle, Shadowheart made her move - something he must keep secret from Tav. Astarion broods alone in his tent, shaken up from the experience, Tav arrives, full of uncomfortable questions about his former life.
***
“Is it any good?” she asked, indicating towards the book on Faerun religions. “Seems ... educational.”“I’m a cultured and curious vampire darling, with a brilliant intellect, fascinated by the pursuit of knowledge, and endless time to devote to self-improvement. Frankly I'm insulted at the implication that you could suspect I’m anything less.”
She looked back at it as a smile danced across her soft lips. “Does it have dirty pictures of beautiful naked people cavorting in honour to the god of decadence and hedonism?”
It did, but that was hardly the point. He hadn’t been reading it for that.
“How dare you, darling,” he said knowingly. Let her think he was reading it for titillation, and not figuring out how to keep himself safe from Shadowheart.

Summary
Astarion, Tav, Shadowheart and Gale have been travelling together for more than a day, without any sign of civilisation or anyone who can help with their tadpoles. While Shadowheart and Tav get to looting, and Gale tries to make himself useful by looking for a village, Astarion's mind starts to wander about what each of his companions might be like in the bedroom.
***
Gale reached up for a thick tree branch, tugged on it experimentally, then removed his purple shirt. The she-elves paused to watch him in some confusion. Astarion kept cleaning his nails, but stared as well as Gale suddenly grunted and pulled himself up onto the branch. He had a lot more upper body strength than Astarion had anticipated.Shadowheart let out a snort, while Tav looked very much like she wanted to giggle.
“This is hardly the time,” the cleric snarked. “To be climbing trees, Gale.”
“I am merely attempting to ascertain,” Gale said good-naturedly, standing on the branch. “The approximate location and direction of any nearby settlements or municipalities which may include a public house whereby we could secure temporary accommodation.”
‘I’m looking for a nearby village’, would that have been so hard to say?
