His shifts at the zoo were often arduous, and his legs always ached violently from the constant bustle, but Quiz Night always made his day better. Especially with all the turmoils of the city making everyone so jumpy, maybe even himself, he needed this time to be with friends, away from work and the rising rates of villains. And all he needed to do to get to that serenity was to grab his bag from the bird sanctuary and return to the safety of street lamps and his friendly security guard.
But that wasn’t what happened. Because Scar wasn’t alone that night.

In the dim light, Grian could still make out distinct features of the man's face. He had scars littering his skin. One went through his eyebrow; another started at his lip and travelled below his chin. His lips were full, his nose a bit puffy, as if he'd been punched. There was a mask looped over one ear, and Grian knew he was meant to be wearing it. But it was his eyes that really made Grian tremble.
His eyes were a kind of piercing that had the capability to strike fear with a glance. They were bright green, the brightest Grian had ever seen in his life. They were calculating eyes. Cold eyes. The eyes of a killer.
And Grian was frozen, trapped by them. He couldn't move. He couldn't scream. He was half crouched behind a tree and some bushes that did nothing to hide the stark whiteness of his wings or the overwhelming bright red of his sweater. He was out in the open, exposed to a murderer.
"Fly away, Birdie,"
After seeing something he's not supposed to see, Grian gets pulled into the dark world of Hermit City's resident serial killers and falls in love in the process.

Grian shifted again—another small movement, a thoughtless roll of his hips as he resettled. The bed creaked faintly beneath them, the sound sharp in the hush. Grian froze for half a second, then relaxed, deciding it was probably fine. If anything, it helped the illusion.
Scar, on the other hand, went very still.
His jaw tightened, eyes closing briefly as he took a slow breath, hands remaining firmly—but respectfully—at Grian’s sides. When he spoke again, his voice was even, almost too controlled. “Hey,” he said gently, breathlessly, “maybe— maybe don’t move like that.”
Grian blinked. “Oh—sorry.” He flushed, immediately trying to still himself, hands pressing into Scar’s shoulders for balance. “Did I—?”
Before Scar could answer—
BANG BANG BANG.

Summary
Grian is a trauma surgeon living in Hermitopia. Underpaid and overworked, he is one of three surgeons keeping the people of the lower districts out of an early grave, despite their own disgruntled protests. Dealing with traumatized patients in a terrible state at the hospital is normal. Dealing with a not so traumatized patient in a terrible state in his own home is less normal. Especially when said patient happens to be the leader of a villain gang. And the rest of the group is there too.

Scar is a supervillain, albeit a bad one. He could blow up the city if he wanted, he didn't need to get in fights with heroes, he could easily rule the city without much hassle. But that would be no fun. He was a supervillain because he wanted to break laws in style. He wanted publicity. But... sometimes he goes too far and forgets that heroes can in fact, attack back. In one unfortunate case, his teammates learn that a simple gauze wrap won't always work, and hard times call for breaking and entering... into a sleep deprived doctor's home.

In other words, Grian is a civilian surgeon and Scar is a reckless supervillain. They do some shenanigans.

Grian won Thirdlife.
Sure it was against his will and he hated it, but he won.
And now that he's had his win, he's going to make sure Scar does too. And he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen.
ORRR:
The Watcher hummed, almost thoughtful, before speaking again, “You want him to win? Do it again. You have the power to afterall. You can bring those players into that world again and again until you get the ending you want. All I need, is a simple yes.”
The thought made Grian feel sick. Bring those players back? Force them to die over and over again simply because he didn’t get the outcome he wanted? It was selfish–it was cruel–it was…
But Scar.
It was all he could focus on-flooding his senses and memories before he even realized it. Scar laughing in the sun, leaning against him as they ate, calling his name like it was the safest thing in the world.
An unnatural anger shot through him, sudden and overwhelming. Scar should have won. He should have been happy. He should have lived.
And before he knows it, Grian is nodding.
“Yes–again. We can do it again. Put us there again.”

Scar doesn’t even try to hide the surprise and confusion in his words. Staring at Cub with both eyebrows raised to his hairline.
“I thought hybrid zoos were deemed too dangerous for the public.” Scar waves a hand over in the vague direction of the zoo exhibits they do have. “Not to mention we were never intended to be that kind of zoo, why us?”
Scar was just a humble zookeeper, he wasn't prepared to deal with this pesky bird that seems much more intelligent than everyone says he should be, but he isn't one to turn down an animal in need. Grian is just happy to be somewhere where he can lay on something soft, even if the humans are weird at this facility. Especially that scarred one.
