Summary
In the wake of Uther's unexpected death, and Morgana's subsequent alliance with Odin, Arthur struggles with feeling unprepared to bear the mantle of King. Fearful for Camelot's future, he sees no choice but to swallow his distaste for Cenred and visit Essetir in order to seek an alliance with him. Arthur is utterly horrified when Cenred offers him a defiant, young prisoner, controlled by an iron collar, as 'entertainment' on the first night of his visit, an entertainment he is expected to enjoy. Arthur is frustrated and disheartened by Cenred’s crudeness and disrespect, but continues to visit, trying to win Cenred round. The only bright point in his visits is the intriguing young prisoner, with whom Arthur is forming an unexpectedly close bond, but one that risks being dangerous for both of them.

Merlin has waited for three long years for this exact opportunity. During a battle against the near-mythical Barbarian King Arthur, Cenred has Merlin's manacles removed so he can fight. With only two guards watching him, it is easy for Merlin to make his escape. He doesn't make it far, and instead ends up being dragged before Arthur himself.

Summary
“So, uh. Arthur is doing better-? Not like, healed better. But… The curse has stopped attacking him?” Merlin really tried to put as much nonchalance into his voice as possible, but Gaius knew him too well. More often than not, when Merlin did something to create problems for himself, he would leave out large parts of what had actually happened. Gaius raised his eyebrow to show Merlin he knew as much.
Finally giving up the act, he slumped down in his seat. “I kind of trapped Arthur’s soul in here with me,” he said weakly gesturing toward his head in defeat.
Gaius looked back at him with a special kind of fear. The one that came from having to hide something that could most definitely get you killed.
Pure exhaustion made his breath feel heavy as it left his lips. “He knows,” Merlin sighed, not even looking at Gaius as he confirmed his silent fear.
The cruel tone lacing Arthur’s voice only made him sink deeper. “Of course Gaius knew. After all, you’d need someone to strategize just how you could betray me best.” Merlin tried his best not to let Arthur’s hatred twist the knife buried in his heart any further.

It might seems odd, but Merlin is use to it, so it's fine. He likes his voice anyways. After all, what kid wouldn't like having a best friend living in their head? Summary
When Merlin almost dies saving Arthur and chooses to reveal his magic to him when he wakes up, he is temporarily relieved of his duties as the king's manservant because Arthur needs time to readjust. After a month of ignoring him, Arthur asks for Merlin's help with a matter he's been stressing over, and well, when has Merlin ever been able to deny his king anything?

He raises his hands hesitantly to cup Arthur’s face before leaning in, and whispers softly for only him to hear. “Forgive me if I am crossing a line.”
A second later he’s kissing Arthur, knowing that he will regret it in the morning, that he will probably regret it even right after. But it’s so gentle and Merlin feels so completely, utterly happy that he realizes he doesn't really mind after all. He pulls back, earlier than he would like, but he forces himself to open his eyes and look at Arthur still.
“Did I cross a line?”
Arthur smiles, so beautifully that it's downright ethereal. “Yes. I just regret that you beat me to it.”

When Merlin first started working for Arthur, he had naively thought Arthur was straight. They worked in an LGBT support organization, but Merlin had given Arthur one look and thought ‘Gorgeous, but straight.’ Of course, he should have known that Annis would not have hired a straight man to head the department of networking. Arthur was more or less the face of the organization when it came to partnerships and sponsorships. Merlin had only made the discovery when he saw the sole personal picture on Arthur’s desk, a snapshot of a group of friends at Pride with Arthur smack in the middle: shirtless, chest painted with sparkling glitter, and a huge sign that read ‘Gay As Hell’ with rainbow flames around the lettering. At the time, it had seemed so out-of-character that Merlin had burst out laughing and immediately cherished this glitterized version of Arthur. Ever since, Merlin had cherished the bits and pieces of that version of Arthur whenever he let that side of him show.
