Where it’s Max and Mike who both begrudgingly work at scoops ahoy together, and end up having a deep conversation with each other on the floor of the mall bathroom.
He clears his throat, before letting out a self-deprecating laugh. “I guess you’re going to say that I sound pretty stupid about this, right?”
“Nope.” Max says, popping the ‘p’, “I’d say that it sounds like you want him to be in a relationship with you, instead.”
“But Will is a boy.” Mike states, a strange expression crossing his face.
“Mike.”
It takes a moment or so for the realisation to really hit him. Except it isn’t a realisation at all, not really, because he already knows. He’s tried to figure out his feelings before now, she can tell.

"Yeah?" Joey pressed a hand against Billy's cheek, feeling for a temperature. Clammy, just booze-flushed. Billy probably needed something to eat, too. Empty stomach.
"Won't be here in the morning, will you?"
Joey gritted his teeth—fuck it, if they felt like teeth, then they were fucking teeth—and stroked back up to Billy's forehead, smoothing his hair out again, sighing.
"That depends," he said, giving Billy's head a gentle shake to make sure he was paying attention, "on whether you want to see me."

The terrorists now refuse to release him after to the botched attempt, so Billy and his friends must quickly enact their escape plan in order to get Joey to a hospital. “Sir,” Parker said sternly, his smile dissolving a fraction.
Joey cleared his throat, extracting his hand from Billy’s with difficulty. “Sorry, sir.”
“Joseph—”
“It’s Joey, sir.”
“As you were,” Parker said, already looking tired at the prospect of dealing with them. “It’s not you I need to hear it from,” he added.
“Gosh, sir,” Billy said with mock innocence and a hint of sarcasm. “Whoever those guys are—”
“You know damn well I’m talking about the two of you, William,” Parker said.
“It’s Billy, sir.”
