Summary
The night before an important diplomatic first meeting with Queen Annis of Caerleon, King Arthur Pendragon cannot sleep. Whilst attempting to though, he accidentally notices when Merlin sheds some garments while on watch, that allowed for a plain view of the patchwork of scars covering his body. Stunned, Arthur confronts Merlin, and the two find more than they both bargained for.

Summary
5 Times Merlin disguised himself. And 1 time he stops hiding
Alternatively:
When Gwaine finds out about Merlin’s magic, he convinces Merlin to use it for funs sake.
He learned of the Dolma and Dragoon and immediately makes Merlin come up with new diguises.
And he does it, so Merlin can hear how Arthur talks about Merlin behind his back.
Which is surprisingly positive. And partly embarrassing, but Arthur doesn’t even notice how obviously he’s pining.
Merlin, however, sees it for the first time from the eyes of a maid, a knight, a royal, a stable boy, a barkeeper etc.
Surprisingly enough, Gwaine doesn’t even ask Merlin to prank Arthur. He just makes him listen.
And that’s how bitter and depressed season 5 Merlin gets healed from his paranoia and self depreciation.

Merlin and Arthur are being chased down when Arthur is injured. Merlin is forced to reveal his magic to save them.
"There’s a strange disconnect after such a pivotal moment. Merlin knows, logically, that everything will change now. That he doesn’t know which direction this could take, and there are many directions. He doesn’t have a clue how Arthur will react, if he’ll still have a home in Camelot. If he’ll still have a life. Merlin knows he’s just killed a dozen men with sorcery right in front of the King of Camelot. Right in front of Arthur. But he feels numb. The air vibrates around him with energy that’s still unsure of where to go. He’s afraid to move. Arthur seems frozen as well.
Any movement would disturb this moment but as long as they remain still, this moment won’t come to pass. They won’t have to be angry or hurt and scared. But Merlin swallows hard and the stillness is broken and he feels Arthur’s sharp intake of breath."
