Quinn King was better working with animals than with people. It was why she had worked as a dog handler in the military, and now again with the FBI. Or rather, that's what was supposed to happen. Story of her life, and how she can't seem to catch a break.
The Commonwealth is not a forgiving place nor is it for the faint of heart. The King twins, however, aren't quitters and will chase the ghosts of the past to find out their place in this wasteland future. And who knows? Maybe they'll get those answers and more along the way. Barbie Goldmann had lived a very, very long life as any ghoul (A glowing ghoul no less) but she had grown to love wasteland just as much as anyone could these days. Her Pre-war life was so long ago, her past long and buried.
So when her father suddenly emerges from that old vault 210 years later, frantically searching for her half-brother, things start going sideways as the past comes rising back up from its grave.
This fic explores the idea of the male sole survivor having 2 children Shaun and Barbara, with Barbara being separated as she was out with friends that fateful Saturday at their College; the Commonwealth Institute of Technology.

When she wakes from 210 years of cryogenic sleep to find him missing, she assumes that he finally found a way to leave with their son. Nothing in the wasteland, not even the worthless sister-in-law she woke up alongside of, can stop her warpath to find her baby. Throughout her journey, the horrors she helped commit, and their lasting impacts on the modern wasteland, are slowly revealed.

Those that were able to had a whole new hosts of challenges to face. Lack of food, safe drinking water, and proper medical equipment meant that many pregnancies ended in tragedy. Even the act of being born was deadly in the Wasteland.

The Institute had killed Danse, Deacon is threatening to expose him as a synth, the prisoner he had tried to save from the farm took a fucking bite out of his hand, and in the attempt to escape with his own life he had been forced to kill one of the hunters that pursed him.
He's a murderer now, just like everyone else in the Commonwealth.
But he still refuses to believe that the surface is beyond saving, that the people here deserve the fate they've been subjected to. So he'll keep trying to be the good person he claims to be. He'll keep building bridges even when they burn them down, he'll keep cutting off pieces of himself in offering, and he'll keep stretching himself as thin as possible until he tears apart at the seams.
Because he won't become cruel and unjust. Not until there's no other option left.

Summary
Most of the Commonwealth has been all but taken over by the raider gangs of Nuka-World and their new, unexpected Overboss: The Lone Survivor of Vault 111. While Nate and his raiders gallivant and pillage, most people are driven to the fringes or captured as slaves, leaving the island settlement of Far Harbor as the best option of refuge for many.
