    With his shaking hands and his Stonefear Gimli cannot perform as well as he wished, as a Dwarf. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Erebor. He can't go on a Quest to reclaim Khazad-dûm.

    He can, however, force his way into the Quest to save all of Middle-Earth.

    There he meets Legolas, who reminds him too much of his friend Ori, in many ways.

In fact, when Bilbo thinks about it he may not even be thinking about politics anymore. It's time to gather up his strength and to gather up his dwarves. Not just for himself, but the little surprise he picked up along the way.

    Third in a few one-shots/short stories that I have written about how Billa Baggins adjusts to life post-quest and the struggles that the Company of Thorin Oakenshield face as they try to understand Hobbit customs (and teach Dwarrow traditions).

    Several months after "On Courses," Billa and Thorin are settling into married life—though it is not without its ups and downs with their busy schedules. Billa is also about to realize her education in terms of Dwarrow culture is quite lacking when it comes to one topic: children. When a Dwarrowdam is pregnant, she always wears a shawl with a specific pattern and symbol on it to make sure others know she is pregnant. Moreover, expecting Dwarrowdams are worshipped—Dwarrow will do anything for them and are even more overprotective due to low birth rates. We all know; however that children are far from rare in the Shire—and a shawl is a shawl, isn't it?

Of course, she can't tell the truth, because Kíli's actual lover isn't exactly likely to gain Thorin's favor - not that anyone else seems to care what she has in her trousers.

    Now she just has to survive jealous dwarves and embarrassing discussions until either Tauriel returns to the mountain or Thorin gets over himself. Or herself, Bilbo hasn't exactly asked yet.

Contains two branches: "No Heir of Durin", which is canon compliant as much as such a 'verse can be (the only adjustments are timeline and genetics, expect feels), and "An Heir of Durin", a forthcoming fic which explores an Everyone Lives AU version of this premise. In between we have "Heirs and Spares", which takes place in either or both 'verses. Simple enough?
