Summary
Her neighbour is no help, a woman called Martha who takes one look at Johanna and sneers. She has a son; she claims he’s eight years old, but he looks far too small in his worn out thrift-shop clothes. Through the thin walls of her apartment Johanna hears Martha berating him, and him crying himself to sleep, and she makes a silent promise to look out for him.

Inspired by Yaelokre's song, the story follows a different set of characters. Taking place after Hilda and the Fairy Isle, our story follows Edward White, a Sparrow Scout with a few words. Known for being quiet amongst his friends and classmates, Edward moves in the shadows where he has his own adventures that are vastly different than Hilda's. More grounded to the everyday lives of Trolberg. However, what nobody knows about Edward is that he has a Marra as his adoptive sister named Emily Sheridan, the Marra who always covers her right eye and is known to be the oldest amongst her friends. In this different story, dive into the world of Hilda through the eyes of an ordinary boy encountering the extraordinary and how he deals with them on his own pace with his sister, four teenagers, and a book of old. Most notably his gift for finding something that not even Hilda can find!

It sneaks up on her, this feeling- this warmth in her chest whenever she sees Frida, this lightness in her heart whenever they are around each other. It's... odd, but not unwelcome.

Frida wished she could say that the validation had calmed her nerves, since it had always done the trick in past times. But even as the two kids scaled the old steps and walked through the doors to the library, she couldn’t shake the notion that she was intruding on Hilda’s supposed plans, due to not being invited in the first place.
But she was grateful for this chance to prove herself, to show that she could be a good friend. She was attentive, organized, kind when she wanted to be–no matter how weird and scary things could get, she was glad that Hilda moved here.
Frida worries about pushing Hilda away again, so she's enthralled when she gets the chance to go on another adventure and prove herself to be a good friend. But when both the Librarian and Hilda reveal their secrets, Frida will come face to face with a part of herself she's never known
