Summary
The planet is dying. Cloud is the last man and human on Gaia. In a last attempt to save itself from destruction, the planet, using the lifestream, puts its remaining strength in sending Cloud’s consciousness to the past. He wakes up to find himself 8 years old and very much the boy he had physically been before the enhancements. Too bad that he had to be sent back in time only to be caught up in the middle of Shinra’s war with Wutai. Cloud destroys Jenova and attempts to dissuade the war from further going too far. Unfortunately, the war’s casualties are far too much for Shinra to consider surrendering anymore and the sides are racing against the clock to forge a different future.

Zack Fair, bored and restless in the basement of the Shinra mansion and worried about his superior officer, who's so absorbed in old documents that he's forgetting to eat and sleep, goes poking around the place and finds a coffin.
Vincent Valentine wasn't sure what he'd thought would happen if he ever met Lucrecia Crescent's son, but he didn't expect that their first conversation would be about how you go about forging the contents of a research journal.
Hojo is disappointed that Sephiroth destroyed his "mother" and left Nibelheim sane, and switches to his Plan B. Which involves waking something else that should never have been touched.
In the background, the Planet is arguing with itself as the echoes of a two-thousand-year-old civil war begin to reverberate once again.
And in the middle of all this, poor Vincent is wondering if it's creepy to be attracted to the son of a woman you once had a terrible crush on, and, if not, how you go about suggesting you're interested in a romantic relationship to a man whose survival has always depended on maintaining his emotional isolation.

Summary
Retelling of Cloud’s cadet days while aiming to be SOLDIER, but this time with Zack’s cohort. Which is great! Until one crazy, supernatural circumstance leads to another and Cloud starts questioning if he’s as “weak” and “pathetic” as his bullies want him to believe.
In the other corner, Shinra is up to their usual gambit of causing massive destruction and blaming terrorists. One day they cross a line they shouldn’t. Our hero decides that if Shinra wants a terrorist from the middle of nowhere, he would damn well give them one.
