I really like the beginning of the fic and the last chapter, that does remain unfinished. The foreshadowing of Beyond revealing himself was well done, and I enjoyed it even though the fic never got to the point where Beyond had his grand reveal. I also did like some of the debates L and Light had about what is morally good and what is deplorable, and I think the dialouge in general is good.

When a new case is suddenly called to Ryuuzaki's attention, Light is left in the dark as he struggles to find the reason behind the detectives mysterious behavior and countless attempts to prove his innocence. But things are darker then they appear and soon Light finds himself in a game far more twisted then what he had hoped for when a new enemy arrives, one who can lead both L and Kira to a death far worse then anything they had ever imagined.

This is a fic I had the fortune of stumbling across when I was scouring old FF.net beyondlaw and lawlight fanfics. Though the fic is unfinished, it inspired me in many ways, with creative scenes I haven't seen in death note fanfics before. The characterization is interesting to say the least, with some dark twists. This likely has one of the darkest interpretations of Beyond, and I like it. L's trauma is also very interesting as he goes from fearing Beyond too craving him. It has a lot of potential, and If I could, I would contact the author and ask if I could finish the story for them. Considering it was last updated in 2010, I think its safe to say that it will never be updated, but I think its worth checking out even though it has some flaws, (like the fact the author does not give proper warnings for the dark themes in the fic).

“Tell me, Light,” says L, and it’s not right to say that Light can only hear static. The static is inside him, expanding, roaring in his ears and buzzing in his throat and foaming through his nose. His fingertips are numb. L keeps talking about hearing bells, but Light can’t hear anything at all.
This ragged, raw beast in his chest, this writhing creature, it’s regressed to pleading. It drowns everything out. Light finds the perfect words and the thing wails in despair, and they go inside as the sun returns for an interlude.
A sunbeam reaches Light's hair and warms his skin. Light shivers. Another drop of water lands on his ankle and the cold radiates out.
“You’re still soaked,” Light tells L, and it’s true but not true enough to sate anything.
L barely seems to notice when Light touches him, repentant and low as the towel moves. “I'm sorry.”
