"Shut it, worm." Conquest grimaced, like the man was beneath him, and really, who wasn't anymore. Ever since the old man took to Mark, he had been following and fighting anything that threatened the boy. Allen couldn't help but compare the big guy to an old, somewhat odd guard dog.
There was something so familiar in the lines of that young face, those eyes. Then it hit him. Just the faintest scent. A scent he would recognize anywhere. The heady musk of preheat.
