Mari knew how far she was pushing her brother. At some point, she had stopped caring. But when he attempts to kill himself on the day of the recital, all that frustration and anger came tumbling down, just as she nearly did. What's left is the hollow shell of the girl she once was, a girl whose desperation to make amends tears apart the people she cares most about and leads her to a place where things were good again, even if she lost everything in the real world because of it.
Just because she survived the day doesn't mean things get better. In fact, they get much, much worse.

It was a perfectly ordinary Thursday in Faraway Town, as far as Kim was concerned. She planned to have a sleepover with Aubrey that night, so that would be something fun to do. Her brother would probably want to go steal some more candy from Othermart too, so she could do that later. But for now, All she wanted to do was sit in the park and enjoy the sunshine.
I never really get the chance to do this , she thought to herself, just take a moment to relax. It was hard work being the second in command of The Hooligans. Especially keeping Angel and The Maverick under control.
She sighed to herself contentedly, wondering how long this moment of relative quiet would last.
Not long enough, clearly, as she was startled out of her thoughts as a young girl, probably 12 or so judging by how tall she was, ran past Kim while crying.
Now, on some days, Kim may have just let the girl pass and gone back to her daydreaming; on others, she may have gone to seek out one of her friends to actually do something.
Today, however, she got a very, very bad feeling.

Summary
The night of the recital went as horrible as Mari could've imagined. A broken violin, a damaged piano, and a brother who still wasn’t improving! Things have finally reached the limit, spiring in a fight that throws her brother, herself, and the violin, down the stairs as everything crumples around them. They vanish inside their home and after a messy divorce, Mr Suzuki disappears herself as well, rarely seen by the folk of Faraway.
But it does, despite everything, seem that everything will be ok. They have each other, and they have their shared dream.... or at least until an old friend once again knocks on their door and, for the first time in a long time, sees it open.
(Unlike the canon, this takes place around 2018-ish)

Summary
It was quiet for a while after that, until Basil lifted his hand and tipped his palm to the sky. “I think it’s starting to rain.”
When Sunny blinked once more, the flower crown was atop mint green hair; everything was much more animated. All except him. He felt the color drain from him, as if he didn’t belong, as if he were nothing but an eyesore in a world that was meant to be bright and beautiful. He was the eternal fuck-up, the flaw by design; the one that was never meant to exist this far at all.
Even though it was dark, the stars were just a little too bright, the grass just a little too blue, and Basil just a little too pastel and pretty to be real. His gaze fell to the floor at the flower crown he’d made; it was now grey and withered, just like him, and the flowers that lined the garden in front of Basil’s shoe cabin; neglected and beyond saving, even though it was easily preventable. Just another several fatal accidents on Sunny’s conscience.
“Oh...” Basil looked at his open palm and the water droplet he’d caught. His eyes turned back to Omori, apologetically understanding. It all made sense now; none of this was ever real.

I came up with this concept after reading Hands for the first time several years ago, because while it is an absolutely amazing story and I can see how the interpretation could fit, I like canon Mari (Hands Mari is a monster through and through). I ended up dropping the concept because at the time I wasn't at all confident in my writing and also stuff happened that made me go away from Omori for a time.
The idea wouldn't leave, though, and now I'm putting it out here 50% to cope with nightmares and 50% to cope with life.
There is one message I want to convey, that I think the creator of Hands, scitydreamer, put best: "This heavily deals with incest and rape (not explicitly shown), but it all has a happy ending. None of this is meant to be glamorized, and in fact, you can go to hell if you fetishize anything in this series."

Kel had ideas about how the Dreamworld first came to be.
The dreams started back when Mari... First passed. Sleeping then, rather than being brought to a strange world that never continued itself or just a empty blackness, he was brought to a place he called Orangespace.
Orangespace was filled with all his favourite things. Basketball, his dog, Hector, a pet rock, some photos from the Dreamworld and Orange Joe.
But the most important things that were there were put on a shelf.
The photo album that Basil had. The pictures were always crystal clear.
Picture perfect, one might say.
