Inuyasha Taisho thought of himself as an island. He didn't need anyone. But as a country doctor in a small town, he could do good. He could help people. He could reach out to kids that had been unwanted, just like him, and offer them a safe harbour until someone better came along to take them in. He didn't need anything else, apart from more sleep because being on call 24/7 was doing his head in.
So when Kagome Higurashi turned up on his doorstep in the middle of the night, injured and scared, carrying a dog that weighed nearly as much as herself, he was happy to offer her safe harbour for a little while too. Except she didn't leave.
