Neptune was a lot of things.
Silly. Flexible. Really good at math. Introspective. Ice giant. Planet. Blue. Not bound by the confines of reality.
But one of the things Neptune also was, one of the things people often didn't connect back to Neptune was that he was a protector.
Sure, maybe in regards to his orbit and the Kuiper Belt but considering his mental state it was easy to write him off on that.
But Neptune was good at protecting the others from other things, or at least... tries to.
Sometimes at the expense of himself.
OR: 3 times Neptune smiled and tried to protect someone at his own expense, 1 time he questioned if it was enough, and the 1 time he finally cracked.

His breath hitches, his eyes pupils shrinking as he tries to rack his brain. He had been Shiva’s moon before, and he knows that it was he who named him, but… what was it? What was his fucking name?!
“I can’t—” He choked on his saliva, his shaking body no longer able to withstand the instability of his emotions, as he tried to dig up any portions of his memories, of he once was. Every single mention of his name prior to becoming a moon of Jupiter was transformed into the name Jupiter he had given him; GANYMEDE. “Why can’t– why can’t I remember— MY NAME WAS—!”

Luna raised an eyebrow, looking at his older brother, puzzled.
“And to be honest with you?... it was beautiful.”
“...Are you off your comets?” Luna asked incredulously.

Neptune at least knew Uranus was alive, because he could see the rising and falling of his back as he breathed and how he shifted every couple of seconds and his hair falling into his face (the braid really sucked now that Neptune was closer—it was sweaty and matted and looked like someones hands had repeatedly ran through it and messed it up), which only slightly relieved the anxiety rolling through his core.
Neptune slowed down his prance, tilting his head in concern and reaching out a hand to help the celestial curled up in a ball in front of him, “…Uranus?”
“Go away Neptune.”
