Summary
A shared job between Edward and James takes a horrific turn when Edward is the victim of a horrible accident. An accident so horrible that he's sent to the steamworks with no way to know for sure if he'll make it out okay. The engines are met with the possibility that he may be beyond repair, where there could be no choice but to scrap him.
With Edward's fate in the air, his friends are left to deal with the extreme emotions that anyone would go through at a time like this. No engine has quite the same experience. Whether it be a growing frustration at the world, an insistence that everything will be fine, or a desire to work harder than ever. No one's getting out of this in one piece.
OR, I inadvertently made S21's "Springtime for Diesel" but it's Edward instead of Daisy, and arguably a lot more serious.

Summary
For twenty-eight years Ferdinand simply existed. With an emotionally distant sister who couldn't return his affection and a collection of owners who had branded him as stupid and worthless, Ferdinand spent a lifetime miserable and alone. One day when he is sure that he will finally be scrapped for his faults, Ferdinand is sold to a struggling logging company on an island off the coast where he meets two little engines who have also been dismissed for being "stupid" and "worthless." With them, Ferdinand is finally not alone anymore. With them, Ferdinand is finally living.

Ferdinand accidently became a major character in SFaIB and so I challenged myself to write an angsty yet heartwarming backstory to make him and the twins likeable.If you just want to read a backstory for Ferdinand, it is not necessary to read Steel Flesh and Iron Bone first, but keep in mind that at the end there is a MAJOR spoiler for that fic.
