Or is it just from seeing a new mark on my body, one whose story he doesn't already know?It's been about 20 months since the events of FFVII, and on a cold pier, a chance meeting reunites two erstwhile colleagues. One retreated and rebuilt with the team; the other crashed and burned, and now bears the marks of a scavenger gang. Time has changed them both... but are these feelings new, too, or did they lurk there all along? Whatever the case, this second chance won't be wasted.
A couple chapters of setup, then... well, we all know why I wrote this.

Summary
Seven years after Meteorfall, Edge has flourished. The city has been at the center of the race for new energy sources and all the progress that brings. But at the same time, it’s drawn back into the same old patterns humans can never seem to leave behind. Eight energy barons have emerged and divided up the city, surrounding themselves with vicious gangs to protect what’s theirs. Reno works for Edge’s mostly powerless security force, struggling to find a place for himself in the world after the Turks are disbanded and move on to their own lives. Lost without the family he’d once found, with only the weight of his sins to sit with him at night.
The tenuous check that the energy barons hold each other in starts to erode in a big way, and Reno finds himself having to work with a reluctant member of Edge’s second most powerful gang, both of them determined to keep the city from descending into hell. Both of them looking for their own versions of redemption. And maybe finding something more for themselves along the way.

Rude
As I read through thi I keep thinking Yes, yes, yes!! His love for animals is given a nod in the Remake and here it shines through. I love how he is 110% engaged in the fate of the baby seal, totally absorbed in this drama. By the way the wild narrator's voice was spot on and the situation was exactly the kind of life-or-death drama such shows centre in their narrative. Of course Rude is crying! He's so human. Which of us hasn't cried over a video of a baby animal in peril, rescued at the last moment. Animals are innocent. This has given me another thought. Rude can't afford to feel too much sympathy for the victims of the work he does, or lose himself in sympathy for their suffering, or he'd go insane. But he can relax around animals and let it all out. I would not be surprised if this Rude was a vegan. Gorgeous vignette with really well grounded characterisation.

There used to be a dear friend there before the Lifestream tore through, taking everything in its path. Along the way, he's lost Aerith, and possibly lost Rufus, and now he has lost his friend.This is a completely self-indulgent fic for a self-insert original character in a fantasy setting. This will be multi-chapter and slow.
