Summary
Leon feels at peace when Merlin uses his magic to help heal his burns after the dragon attack. He isn't sure how to express his gratitude, so he just starts looking after him. After a time, Leon realizes that he's not just protective, it's more than that. He just doesn't know quite how to express it.
Merlin helps him figure it out.

Summary
Merlin has waited for three long years for this exact opportunity. During a battle against the near-mythical Barbarian King Arthur, Cenred has Merlin's manacles removed so he can fight. With only two guards watching him, it is easy for Merlin to make his escape. He doesn't make it far, and instead ends up being dragged before Arthur himself.
(Note: You do NOT need to know anything about D&D to read this, I just thought Arthur would look hot in Barbarian Rage and this got out of control)

He takes a deep breath, brings his thumb and forefinger to his mouth, and whistles as loudly and shrilly as he can. The shadows respond. They come together in a deep dark mist, fade in and out of each other, before collapsing into their final shape. Aithusa comes screeching from the shadowy hell plane she inhabits and lands with a heavy thud at his side. She nuzzles his hip as she always does.
Cenred’s smug smirk drops like a stone and he stumbles backwards to try to put some distance, “Let’s be reasonable here. Surely there is something I can give you…”
“You should have thought of that before you threatened my family.”
He whistles sharply. Aithusa lunges. Cenred’s’ head separates from his body with a sickening crunch.

Summary
Merlin, despite the dragon’s warning, reveals himself to Morgana and offers a helping hand. Arthur finds out about Morgana and then about Merlin. But instead of going to his father to have them on a pyre, he helps them.
Merlin, Morgana, Arthur and Gwen start working on helping magic users and generally everyone, whom Uther dismisses as unimportant. The four of them stand united, even against the forces of destiny.

The romance in this story is definitely more of a C plot than anything and isn’t all that flushed out but everything else is great.
I love actually seeing Gwen. What she does outside of the castle (volunteering with orphanages, helping in any way she can, even finding missions for her vigilante group). It shows why she will be a beloved Queen.
One of my favorite takes on Killigarah I’ve read. And I love how Merlin’s drive to change destiny/follow the less likely path and Arthur’s honor change him/make him see the future differently.
Also, I need more vigilante Arthur saving the kingdom against his father’s wishes.
Balinor and Merlin’s reactions to meeting eachother is the cutest fucking thing.
The first scene with Merlin, Mordrid, and Morgana is everything.
This story falls off a bit in the second half and it feels like Morgana and Gwen get shoved aside/almost become damsels or cliche love interests. Arthur kind of gets shoved aside too and there’s less of that team dynamic that I really love from the jump. It’s more of Merlin just doing everything.
