That you lived, came the unspoken words, and Jason nodded, mouth dry. Neither were unappreciative of just how lucky Jason had been. A few minutes more, and nothing Bruce could have done would’ve saved Jason. And he still bore the wounds—healed but not forgotten—to prove it.
“I know that you're going to take this world by storm,” Bruce finished, smiling now, although his eyes looked as damp as Jason’s felt. “I can’t wait to see you terrorise all those snobs.”

Summary
A hand closes around his upper arm, yanking, Jason screams. A moment later he feels something crack under his fist, squirming and kicking. This isn't supposed to be happening, it's not supposed to be real.
"Help B!" he's yelling and someone yanks one of his crutches from his bad hand, fingers wretched until something pops and he feels his stomach lurch at the pain. It's happening again, the dust coating his skin, the blood. The clown must have found him, of course he'd never be safe, he was so stupid to believe any of it.
OR
Jason has a flashback while alone in public and gets attacked by a cop, Bruce brings him home afterwards and the family tries to help him deal with the fallout.

Kansas is crisp air, warm rays of sunshine, and comfort soothing his soul with each breath.
There’s not supposed to be any worry about it. No matter what’s happened in the world, where he's been, what he’s seen, what he was unable to prevent, the farm is still there. His mother is still waiting for him to come past that door and welcome him in as if he’s never left to begin with. His father is still out in the field on the old tractor, and when he sees Clark he’ll smile and say “Put your boots on son”.
What it’s not supposed to be, is a dreary quiet save for the soft sound of sniffles and the creaking of the branch that holds the old tire swing swaying in the breeze. The sun may be high in the sky today and the weather near stifling, but it feels like the darkest clouds have set up shop overhead.

Jason has been drowning for so long.
A man gone overboard and not seen by the crew. Atlantic waters crash over him and pull him into the black depths.
Dick doesn’t know how no one noticed it until now. That no one noticed that Jason was slowly dying..withering away. Struggling with a monumental battle in his own head. It was only noticed when the Red Hood stopped being spotted out in the streets of Gotham like some endangered species.
And god. It’s so much worse than anyone realized.
Or, Jason is struggling a lot with his mental health and familial ties. Only being noticed once Jason is too deep in his own illnesses. The question is, can the Wayne family help him..or will he simply sink down into the deep dark sea.

Jason Todd grew up with a fundamental fear of being seen. Not in the sense of shyness, but in the sense of shame. He supposed, if he wished to contemplate the fear’s origins, he might start where most tragedies do:
The house he grew up in.
Where the act of wanting was as good as a death sentence to that desire.
He supposed he might even make an argument for the statement “people become what they are called”. He thinks that might have some merit, looking back.
What he fears most, (like most other people), is how obvious it is to others. The fear itself.

Thanks to a rogue meta, the batfam gets to watch Jason's memories like a movie; and Jason just really wants a family again. But you cannot be loved if you aren't known, and well... if circumstances provide? might as well take the chance, right?

Summary
Just a year ago, Bruce had thought that his family was almost complete. The date for Dick's adoption was coming up and Jason had been making great progess throughout his stay at the manor, so much so, that Bruce had come to see him as a son, too. But of course, it'd been going too well. Somehow, Willis had managed to avoid any jail time and regain full custody of Jason, snatching Jason from Bruce's arms when they'd both just come to settle.
After that, Bruce only accepts short term foster placements, and even that he's debating giving up.
That is until he gets a phonecall telling him that everything's changed, and Jason may very well be back in his care soon...
