Summary
Marianne is the eldest daughter of Lord Dagda of Summerland where she's been arranged to marry the newly appointed Captain of His Majesty's Naval Service. Marianne knows she's not the sweet and compliant wife Roland wants, but there's not much she can find wrong with honoring her father and her home. Besides, it's not like she has a choice otherwise. The reception ends with a proper military sendoff to start their honeymoon at sea where Marianne plots her suicide as she believes her marriage has condemned her to a life of misery. However, her attempts are sabotaged as she quickly learns her new husband is not who he claims and that there are far worse things than to be trapped in a marriage of status.
