It’s the middle of December 1989, and everyone is finishing up their first semester at college. They’re all returning back to Hawkins for the break, excited for a few weeks of rest, relaxation, and catching up with old friends.
Mike should be excited; he hasn’t spoken to many of his friends since he started college, the losses of the last few years still weighing heavily on his mind. But instead of excitement, his stomach is filled with dread. Dread of being back in his shitty hometown. Dread of all the memories that still haunt each corner of Hawkins.Dread of seeing Will again for the first time in months.

Summary
After Will Byers returns to Hawkins after living in California for five years, his life turns upside down. Going back to his past life — a life he thought was long gone — comes with great struggle Will tries to convince everyone (himself included) it’s just some seasonal depression that’s going to wear off once fall is over.
Turns out it’s anything but a seasonal depression, as Will begins to feel like he’s going insane — feeling like he’s haunted by the ghost of his past, struggling to eat anything as food looks like poison, and with a good night’s sleep becoming a thing of the past.
And it certainly doesn’t help that Mike Wheeler keeps staring at him from across the hallway like a creep. He keeps staring instead of talking to Will, instead of making things right after ghosting him years ago.
Because despite once being inseparable, now Will sees Mike as nothing but a cowardly stranger, who didn’t have the guts to write him one last letter saying he didn’t want to keep in touch anymore. Or at least that’s Will’s point of view.

Returning to the Kingdom has never felt so relieving to the trio, only now they have to babysit their newest resident, the crazed Jester himself, Shadow Milk, who seems to pry much more then they’d like.
(Basically, Pure Vanilla manages to take Shadow Milk and his minions with him before they escape (reluctantly on the Deceit trios end) and now has them living in the Vanilla Kingdom for a while before moving him to the Cookie Kingdom for safety purposes due to the other Ancients returning from their trips to Beast-Yeast)
Also! Small Headcanon: Each of the kiddos have scars they got from the Witches castle
GingerBrave: Scars and Claw marks on his body, mainly his torso shoulders and legs, scar on his cheek, on on his neck and burn marks on his arms (I like to think one of his Skull Buttons are Enchanted by Wizard to hide them)
Wizard: Half Blind and missing an eye, lost it after he stole the Wand from the Witch but got caught and and slight burns at his fingertips he got when he first used his staff (He covers it with his hair)
Strawberry: large claw mark on her back and some scars on her arms from falling from the Window, she is missing a chunk of the dough around her mouth (Hidden by Hoodie)
